Alice Ellsworth

Alice Mary Ellsworth, a bright light in the lives of many, departed this world on September 20, 2025, in Pima, Arizona, at the age of 92. Born on December 3, 1932, in Gilbert, Arizona, Alice's journey began in a small town that would be a backdrop to her blossoming spirit and enduring love for family.

A proud member of the Chandler High School Class of 1952, Alice carried with her a radiant energy that never faded. She embraced her role as a loving homemaker with unparalleled devotion, dedicating her life to nurturing those around her. Her sweet, kind nature earned her the beloved nickname, "Energizer Bunny," a perfect reflection of her vibrant personality that continued to sparkle throughout her life.

On April 21, 1952, she married the love of her life, Monte H. Ellsworth, in a beautiful ceremony in Florence, Arizona. Together, they built a life rooted in faith and family, a testament to Alice's profound love for both God and kin. Even after Monte's passing, her spirit remained fiercely resilient, and she found solace and strength in the family they nurtured.

Alice often expressed her pride in her family, which brought her the greatest joy. She leaves behind her devoted children: Keith (Donna) Ellsworth, Pam Ellsworth, and Krinda (Jay) Brown, who carry forward her legacy of kindness and compassion. Her heart swelled with pride for her four grandsons, in whom she found immense joy, along with her four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Each of them was a cherished member of her life tapestry, woven with love and laughter.

She was also the loving sister of Louise "Rusty" Neely and a supportive sibling to brother Pat Murphree. Each bond enriched her life immensely, reflecting a home filled with warmth and understanding. Alice often found great joy in gardening, growing not only plants but also relationships, connecting deeply with family and friends alike. Her animal companions, Missy and Freddy, also provided comfort and companionship throughout her years.

Alice will be lovingly remembered for her unwavering spirit, her boundless enthusiasm, and her great love for family and God. Her presence was a gift to all who knew her, leaving behind an indelible mark of sweetness and kindness. Though she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Monte, her father Aubrey "Pat" Murphree, mother Francis Etta Prichard Murphree, and brother Neal Murphree, her legacy will continue through the hearts she touched, the lessons she imparted, and the love she shared.

As we bid farewell to Alice, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with faith, love, and an infectious zest for life. May we each carry forward the lessons learned from her remarkable journey, honoring her memory by embodying the same gentleness and energy she demonstrated so brilliantly.

Elaine Mattice

Elaine M. Mattice, formerly of the Gila Valley, passed into eternity on September 18, 2025 in Gilbert, AZ at the age of 101. Elaine was born in Glenbar, AZ to Howard & Elsie McBride and was the youngest of 12 children. She was raised on a farm and always had chores to do along side of her siblings. Elaine attended Pima schools and had many friends.

She met Rue Mattice in high school. They were married on February 12, 1942 and a few days later were sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Rue joined the military, and they moved to Austin, TX. Not long after completing training, he was transferred to Fort Wayne, IN and then flew to their final destination, Dulag Leyte in the Philippines.

Elaine moved back to Arizona to attend Gila Junior College (Eastern Arizona College today). Rue lost his life in a heroic accident shortly after the war ended. Elaine then moved to Phoenix to attend Arizona State University (ASU). She started working for Valley National Bank (Chase Bank today), in 1949. She worked as a purchasing office for all of the branches in Arizona. She then retired from banking in 1985.

Elaine enjoyed playing and watching golf, she also had a love for the arts and theatre and attended when she could. She also enjoyed traveling with friends and was able to see many wonderful places. On her 89th birthday, she went skydiving with her hairdresser and crew. When asked if she'd do it again, she said, "Absolutely!"

Elaine has been a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in many callings. Her most recent was serving in the Mesa Arizona Temple for 23 years and then the Phoenix Arizona Temple for 3 years.

She still drove her Black Kia Soul to keep her young and independent up until the last few months. She lived on her own and cared for herself and her home. She loved a good movie night out and dinner with family and friends. She kept up with technology on her iPhone and enjoyed reading the Arizona Republic to keep her mind sharp.

A Graveside service for Elaine will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Pima Cemetery where she will be laid to eternal rest in the Mattice family plot.

Harry Cervantez Nabor

Harry Cervantez Nabor, born on December 29, 1960, in Morenci, Arizona, unexpectedly departed this world on September 12, 2025, in Solomon, Arizona. A devoted family man, loyal friend, and cherished member of the community, Harry was a beacon of kindness and laughter to all who knew him.

Harry’s career as a Sampler along with various other jobs within Phelps Dodge Mine was marked not only by his dedication to his work but also by the warmth and laughter he exuded among his colleagues. Known for his quick wit and humorous spirit, he was often the life of the party, bringing joy and laughter into everyday moments. His love for children was palpable; they adored him and would actively seek him out, a testament to his nurturing nature. He frequently cooked for community gatherings, ensuring that first responders were well-fed during breakfasts, delivering warmth beyond just food. His enthusiasm for helping others shone through during Christmas parties and Thanksgiving dinners, where he opened his heart and home to those in need. He was also proud to be apart of the Honor Guard and attending the annual Fishing Derby at the county fairgrounds in Safford.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Salina (John) Szady and Jodie (James) Billingsley; his sons, Jeff (Nora) Rodriguez, Jason Rodriguez, and John Rodriguez; and his beloved sisters, Ellen (Eddie) McKenzie, Carolyn Sanchez, and Sally Nabor. He also leaves behind his brother, Jerry Nabor, along with 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, each of whom were a significant aspect of his joyful existence.

Harry took immense pride in his family, notably in marrying the love of his life, Glenda Stewart Nabor, in Clifton, Arizona, in 1984. Their bond was an inspiration, hand-in-hand through all of life’s seasons. Though Glenda, along with Harry's parents, Refugio and Raquel Cervantez Nabor, and brother Ernest Nabor, have passed, their memories stand as a testament to the love that enveloped Harry throughout his life.

As we reflect on Harry's legacy, we cherish the laughter he shared, the kindness he extended, and the love he nurtured. His spirit will forever linger in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him. The memories of Harry will continue to light the way for many, and his stories will certainly be told with a smile in the days to come.

Norlene Robinson

Norlene Weech Robinson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on September 8, 2025 in Safford, Arizona. She was born on January 23, 1934 in Pima, Arizona. Norlene often expressed gratitude for her happy childhood. She loved playing with her brothers and sisters. She especially loved going to Columbine on Mt. Graham. She would often tell how the family would take off for the mountains as soon as school was out and not come down until it was time to start school again. She loved Mt. Graham all her life. She would share this love with her children and later with her grandchildren. They all have stories to share about being with Grandma on her mountain.

Norlene married Lyle Robinson from Thatcher on October 19, 1953. Lyle passed away on January 1, 2021. They had been married for 67 years. They had six children.

Norlene studied secretarial training and business/bookkeeping at EAC. She used that training for the various jobs she had including the secretary at Pima Schools, Town of Pima Clerk & Magistrate, and secretary at EAC. She also worked for the US Post Office as a rural route mail carrier.

Norlene was very active in the community. She had a talent for putting together events for any size crowd. She could often be found decorating weddings, leading choirs, planning town events and celebrations, church activities, parades, and family reunions. She helped organize the Pima Centennial Celebration. She was so very proud of the children's choir that she directed. She loved it when one of the children, now all grown up, would tell her how much fun the choir was.

Norlene found that she had a knack for decorating weddings and did this for many couples her in the Gila Valley. Her granddaughter would say about her grandmother that she could do anything with a little ribbon and a glue gun.

Norlene loved her grandchildren. She loved taking them to the mountain, feeding them, teaching them songs, and going for rides in her mail jeep. They all loved going to grandma's house.

Norlene was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, their daughter, Lynne, and her grandson, Jacob Johnson. She is survived by her children, Colleen (George) Rocha, David (Jolynn) Robinson, Lisa (Eddie) Norton, Lori (James) Mark, and John Robinson, 15 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

A memorial for Norlene will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 10:30 with a viewing beginning at 9:00. This will be held at the Main Street Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Pima. Burial will follow in the Pima Cemetery.
