🏓 Are you a pickleball powerhouse?
Whether you're a seasoned player or just starting out, the rapid movements and quick directional changes of pickleball, padel, tennis and other court sports can put significant stress on your body, often leading to injuries.
As an experienced practitioner at Menard Acupuncture in Sag Harbor, our founder sees these challenges often. He put together a comprehensive guide for what causes the most common injuries his patients develop on the court, from tennis elbow to ankle and knee sprains, and how you can treat them at home.
Treatments range from the R.I.C.E. method & heat therapy to stretching & strengthening exercises, and treating underlying pain & inflammation.
What is the R.I.C.E. method? The RICE method is a standard treatment protocol for soft tissue injuries such as sprains, strains, and bruises. It stands for:
🛏 Rest: Avoid using the injured area to prevent further damage and allow healing to begin.
🧊 Ice: Apply ice to the injured area for 15-20 minutes every 1-2 hours during the first 48 hours to reduce swelling and numb pain.
🤕 Compression: Use an elastic bandage or wrap to compress the injured area, which helps reduce swelling.
🔝 Elevation: Keep the injured area elevated above heart level to reduce swelling and pain by draining excess fluid.
