Among newly-diagnosed cancer patients – and there are about 1.4 million in the USA each year – the #1 complaint about doctors is that patients do not understand them. We believe it is a new learning-system for patients that emphasizes “simplification” of cancer’s complex jargon and concepts, and produces “cancer patient literacy.” What we have devised relies primarily on explaining cancer in Power Point – the most widely adapted software for simplifying complex concepts. On our website these Power Point slides are a module unto their own (www.csorg.org) and integrate with two other modules that make up the CSO learning system. So, think of CSO as an “online university” except everyone who goes there has cancer and everything is free. Plus, the teaching material is easy-to-comprehend and you can finish in about one hour.
