🎉Yoga Shanti opened its doors 25 years ago today 🎉⁣

I asked my brother in law who recently had a heart attack if he had any revelations or priority shifts. His reply was: He realized, as he was lying on the couch for 10 weeks post surgery, that building community is the most important thing in life and that is what his focus will be for the remainder of his life. This struck me. ⁣

So, as we celebrate the actual day that we hung the Yoga Shanti shingle 25 years ago, and I am asked how and why did I go through all that I had to go through to keep the doors open, my reply is that building community is integral to a fulfilling life. Thank you all for being part of the community. 🙏🙏✨

Dear Yoga Community,

As we transition from a vibrant summer filled with packed classes both online and in person, I want you to know the depth of my gratitude. I do not take your presence for granted. Your energy and commitment have made this season truly special at Yoga Shanti, and it fills me with joy to see our community thriving. This summer was particularly significant as we celebrated the 25th anniversary of Yoga Shanti in style, a milestone that reflects the love and dedication we share for this practice. As I embrace this new chapter in my life, now on Medicare, I am reminded of the importance of connection and I am so grateful to have you all by my side.

As we put away our summer slip dresses and bring out the cozy hoodies, I’m excited for the opportunities that fall brings. Looking ahead, we have many offerings planned for the season, each designed to deepen your practice and enhance your well-being. However, the event that I want to put in front of you today is the Women’s Retreat taking place from September 13-15 at the beautiful Menla Mountain Retreat Center near Woodstock. This retreat promises to be a transformable experience, centered around the theme “Know You Are Enough.” The weekend is an opportunity to dive into the core of your being and reveal the joy and beauty that dwells there. This depth of exploration is experienced more deeply in this environment without the detractions and obligations of our beautiful and stressful every day life. The practice will consist of asana, meditation, pranayama, poetry, journaling and conversation. Spa treatments and hiking are a bonus. It’s a wonderful opportunity to be amongst your sisters in the practice and connect, reflect, and rejuvenate amidst the serene beauty of nature.

Thank you once again for being such an integral part of our community. Your dedication inspires me every day, and I look forward to seeing you on and off your mat this fall.

9/20 Friday: 6:00pm - 8:00pm⁣

9/21 Saturday: 9:00am - 12:00pm and 1:30 - 4:30pm⁣

9/22 Sunday: 9:30am - 1:30pm⁣

In all yoga classes, our goal is to provide a well-structured sequence, a safe practice, and true alignment that is accessible to all students. This continuing education program is a valuable opportunity for both new and experienced teachers to refine their skills in the classroom. We will focus on fundamental knowledge of sequencing poses to create balance and ease in the body, as well as steadiness of the mind, heart and nervous system. Understanding the anatomy and physiology of the body is essential for sequencing in a way that ensures safety and depth. While intuition is important, it is equally important to follow basic principles when developing classes to prevent injuries.⁣

Good alignment is a primary consideration for joint health, good posture, proper breathing, and digestion. Without proper alignment, the body can be distorted, and the overall benefits of yoga diminished. Using props appropriately allows all students to experience inner ease and freedom through stability, support and the exploration of depth. It is important to use props intelligently so that they do not impede the flow of the practice, but instead enhance the entire experience. The proper use of props also promotes inclusivity by creating an environment where everyone can participate. As an extension of props, we will also practice safe and appropriate manual adjustments.⁣

Lastly, consistent practice is key to maintaining freshness and authenticity in our teaching. By continuing to practice ourselves, we not only bring a genuine and vibrant energy to our classes, but we also embody what we teach.⁣

This program will qualify for 25 hours of continuing education credit with Yoga Alliance. ⁣
