I know my massage approach is different and unique.
I know this because it's the most common piece of feedback I receive from new clients after their session.
"I've never had a massage like that before". Or "I've never been more relaxed". "I've had massages all over the world, and I've never experienced such an incredible massage".
Why does the approach I use work?
When you come in, I feel your body. Slowly. Gently. Deeply. I'm beginning to work on your nerves (yes, you are reading that correctly). Your nerves, when they are heightened or trapped, can control so much of the rest of your body, causing anxiety, pain, or unnecessary chaos. So I begin there to help unwind and remind your brain, "hey, it doesn't have to be chaotic." When I do this, I move slowly... slowly... to feel, allowing your body to direct me where to go.
Your body and brain need to be in sync to help it unwind and do what it is capable of doing, and if I move too quickly, 1) I'm missing potential areas of needed work, and 2) what you feel may be delayed. The problem with number 2 is that when I work on your nerves, it needs to communicate what it is feeling to the brain to "rewire"(neuroplasticity). If receptors are delayed or "gunked" up, they need a little extra communication time, and if I work too fast or too quickly, there is potential for a lot to be missed.
Incredible that your body is actually showing me where to go. I simply follow. It is truly like a dance or an art form, and I love it.
This is why I get this feedback. My approach to body work is different, and it works.
