April is Second Chance Month
This month, we recognize that everyone deserves the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
I know firsthand the power of second chances. But I also know that true transformation requires more than just opportunity, it demands the right tools and support.
The numbers tell a powerful story: approximately 68% of released individuals return to custody within five years. Behind each statistic is a human being capable of change when given proper support.
Second chances aren't just about opening doors, they're about preparing people to walk through them successfully. When we invest in rehabilitation that addresses the psychological and emotional barriers to reintegration, we create safer communities and stronger families.
This month, I challenge you to consider: How can you support second chances in your community? Whether through hiring practices, volunteer work, or simply changing the conversation about returning citizens, each of us has the power to create pathways for transformation.
Because when we invest in second chances, we invest in our shared future.
