January is National Human Trafficking Awareness & Prevention Month, and on January 11, 2026, we invite you to join us for Wear Blue Day. đź’™

Wearing blue is a simple but powerful way to stand with survivors, honor their strength, and help shine light on an issue that often remains hidden.

Human trafficking affects people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds — and awareness is one of the first steps toward prevention. When we start conversations, share information, and show visible support, we help create safer, more informed communities.

Wear blue. Share why it matters. And know that support and hope exist for those impacted.

It’s National Houseplant Appreciation Day, and January is the perfect time to invite a little green into your space.

Caring for a houseplant can be a gentle form of self-care - something steady and grounding during a month that can feel long, quiet, or heavy. Even small routines like watering a plant or noticing new growth can boost mood, reduce stress, and remind us that growth takes time.

If this season has you craving a little extra support beyond what a sunny windowsill can offer, our team is here for you. Reach out to our Intake Department at (989) 790-7500 to schedule your first appointment.

Because at Child & Family Services, we believe in building better lives, one small, nurturing step at a time.

Our Sexual Assault Center is welcoming compassionate volunteers to join our Victim Advocate team!

Volunteer Victim Advocates provide emotional support through our 24/7 crisis hotline or in person during medical-forensic exams. These volunteers show up during some of the hardest moments and help survivors feel heard, respected, and in control of their own choices by listening, answering questions, and connecting survivors to other resources and supports they may need.

All volunteers receive thorough, trauma-informed training that prepares you to respond with empathy, confidence, and skill. Training includes education on sexual violence, crisis intervention, medical and legal concerns, and local resources, along with hands-on advocacy practice.

đź—“ Training dates:
January 30–31 & February 6–7 | 9:30am–5:30pm (lunch breaks included)

📞 For more information or to get started, contact Allison Dakos at (989) 790-7500 ext. 247 or at adakos@sac-saginaw.org

January often brings a lot of pressure to “set the right goals” and get everything figured out — but therapy isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress.

Setting realistic goals helps create space for growth that feels supportive instead of overwhelming. Starting small, focusing on what feels doable right now, and allowing your goals to shift as you grow can help therapy feel steady, meaningful, and sustainable.

If you’ve been thinking about starting therapy or want support as you set goals for the year ahead, our team is here for you. Call our Intake Department at (989) 790-7500 to schedule an appointment and take the next gentle step forward.

Because at Child & Family Services, we believe in building better lives — one realistic goal at a time.

If you or someone you love has been impacted by sexual violence, you deserve support that is compassionate, confidential, and centered on your healing.

At our Sexual Assault Center, we walk alongside survivors of all ages and all genders with free, confidential services designed to meet you where you are, without pressure, judgment, or expectations.

Our specially trained team offers trauma-informed counseling for children, teens, adults, and families, a 24/7 crisis line for immediate emotional support and guidance, and dedicated victim advocates who provide in-person support, help you understand your options, and reduce the sense of isolation that can follow trauma. For those navigating the legal system, our legal advocacy services offer education, accompaniment, and support every step of the way so you never have to face it alone.

Healing looks different for everyone, and there is no “right” way or timeline. Whether you’re reaching out for yourself, a family member, or simply looking for information, our Sexual Assault Center is here to listen and help when you’re ready.

If you’d like more information, want to set up an appointment, or are ready to access services, you can call us at (989) 790-7500. If you need immediate support, our 24/7 crisis hotline is always available at (989) 790-9118.

Today we’re celebrating Randy Mey, a steady, compassionate presence who has devoted his career to caring for individuals, children, and families since earning his Master’s in Social Work from Wayne State University in 1998. With more than 25 years in mental health and substance use treatment, Randy brought deep expertise, wisdom, and heart to every role he held — always showing up for clients with sincerity, respect, and unwavering care.

As a team made up largely of women, Randy lovingly called us his “sisters,” and we can say with our whole hearts that he has been the very best big brother we could ask for. His guidance, humor, protectiveness, and genuine kindness shaped our culture in ways that can’t be measured. He has one of the biggest hearts we know, and that love for people has been evident in every client he’s served.

While Randy is stepping into retirement, we’re grateful this isn’t goodbye. He’ll continue with us in a part-time role with a smaller caseload and will keep leading our HPRP (Health Professionals Recovery Program) — a true gift to both our agency and the community. Randy, thank you for the decades of dedication, the countless lives you’ve touched, and the way you’ve cared for this team like family. You will be deeply missed — and always cherished. 🤍🖤

Winter can be beautiful, but it can also feel heavy. Shorter days, colder weather, and less sunlight can impact our mood, energy, and motivation in ways we don’t always expect.

For some, this seasonal shift can bring Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) — a type of depression that tends to show up during the winter months. You might notice increased fatigue, changes in sleep or appetite, difficulty concentrating, or a general sense of feeling “low” or disconnected.

If winter feels harder than it should, you’re not alone and you don’t have to push through it on your own. Support, understanding, and care can make this season feel more manageable.

If you or someone you love could use extra support, our team is here to help. To learn more about services or to get connected, please contact our Intake Department at (989) 790-7500.

Even in the coldest seasons, healing is possible.

If you’re new here — or just need a gentle reminder — we’re glad you found us!!

At Child & Family Services, our work centers around meeting people where they are and offering support that feels safe, compassionate, and real.

In our Counseling Center, we provide care for children, individuals, and families navigating everyday mental health concerns. Our Employee Wellness Center partners with local workplaces to support employees’ mental health, because strong organizations are built on well-supported people. And our Sexual Assault Center offers free, confidential services to survivors and anyone impacted by sexual trauma — because no one should have to heal alone.

Whether January feels like a fresh start or simply another step forward, you don’t have to do it by yourself. If you’re ready to begin services or just want to learn more, our Intake team is here to help. Call us at (989) 790-7500 when you’re ready.

January is National Human Trafficking Awareness & Prevention Month — a time to shine light on a very real issue that impacts individuals and families in our community. Awareness matters, because understanding the signs and risks can help keep ourselves and others safer.

All month long, we’ll be sharing facts, resources, and ways to stay informed as part of our commitment to prevention, education, and support. And if you or someone you care about has been impacted, you don’t have to navigate it alone — our team is here with compassionate, confidential services when you’re ready.

Together, through awareness and care, we can continue building better lives.

January invites us to slow down, take a breath, and gently check in with ourselves. Journaling can be a simple but powerful way to clear your mind, process emotions, and set intentions as you do just that.

Taking just a few quiet minutes to write can help reduce stress and increase self-awareness, especially during a season of fresh starts and new transitions.

If your reflections bring up things you’d like support with, our caring team is here to walk alongside you. Call our Intake Department at (989) 790-7500 to learn more and schedule your first appointment.

Hope Begins with Access to Care

We are incredibly grateful for the $15,000 grant from the Saginaw Community Foundation and $7,500 from MyMichgan Health to support The Hope Counseling Scholarship Fund. This funding helps remove financial barriers for children, adults, and families who need counseling but may not be able to afford it.

The Hope Counseling Scholarship Fund serves as a bridge to hope; strengthening healthy relationships, supporting positive life choices, and restoring emotional well-being for families reaching out to Child & Family Services during difficult times.

You can help continue this important work. Your donation—no matter the size—helps ensure that no one is turned away from care when they need it most.

Donate today: www.childandfamilysaginaw.org

Together, we can restore hope, healing, and brighter futures for our community.
