Years ago, I facilitated trainings for human service workers with The Vermont Association for Mental Health and Addiction Recovery. One of the items we would teach about is being mindful of our exposure to media. It is not a coincidence this thing you are scrolling through is called a "feed." It is important to be mindful of what we feed ourselves.

Chronic stress can pull us out of sync—leaving our bodies rushed, tense, or disconnected. Dr. Gabor Maté reminds us that trauma often disrupts the natural rhythms of our biology. In somatic work, we slow down and listen for what feels off—our breath, our heartbeat, our movement. When we move gently and attentively, we begin to restore that internal rhythm. Reclaiming your own tempo is a powerful form of stress release.

Inspired by the insights of Dr. Gabor Maté.

Explore a transformative, body-centered approach to trauma healing in our 60-hour Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy Certificate. This live, 3-month online program beginning Sept. 28, 2025, weaves together the wisdom of world-renowned somatic teachers to help you better understand the body’s role in healing social, developmental, and cultural trauma. Whether you're a practitioner, educator, or on your own healing journey, you’ll gain practical tools and embodied insights that can deepen your work and your life. Register your interest now to be the first to know when enrollment opens.

Trevor Jewett is a lifelong drummer with a deep passion for rhythm and human connection. As a Vermont Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Level 2 Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, he integrates drumming with trauma-informed care to foster healing, regulation, and social connection. His private practice, Restoring Rhythm Vermont PLLC, is grounded in Polyvagal Theory. Recognizing that trauma treatment is rooted in co-regulation, safety, and the “rhythm of regulation” within the autonomic nervous system, Trevor sees group drumming as a powerful tool to facilitate these essential processes.
🥁
In this free community event, Trevor will guide us in experiential music making, teaching us how we can each harness the regulating benefits of rhythm with drumming and movement to regulate and co-regulate. No musical experience is necessary, and neither is a drum! We encourage you to use “found sound” like a plastic coffee container, 5 gallon bucket, or even a couch pillow will work. It is also ok to use body percussion, like playing on ones knees or lap.
🤍
Can't join us live in real time? Your registration includes access to the event recording that is emailed out within 2 business days of the live event.
Register to attend on the Events page on our website at polyvagal.org/events
