It’s Sleep Awareness Week! 💤

Did you know we each have a specific chronotype decided by our circadian rhythms for the best times to go to sleep, wake up, and more? 🛏️

Dr. Michael Breus (The Sleep Doctor) defined four chronotypes as mammals — all of which have a similar sleep cycle he describes below:

🐻 Bears: 55% of the population. Bears follow the solar schedule and are most productive from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
🦁 Lions: 15% of the population. Lions are highly productive in the morning and wake up early.
🐺 Wolves: 30% of the population. Wolves are late risers and most productive at night.
🐬 Dolphins: Rare. Erratic sleepers who often struggle getting to sleep and staying asleep.

Sleep habits can be improved with lifestyle changes such as consistent exercise, doing a digital detox, healthier eating routines, limiting caffeine, and more. 😴

✨ Knowing your chronotype is a helpful first step to improve your sleep, but lifestyle changes are a big factor, too. These can all be explored further in session to see what is a priority for you and what will work best to try to improve your sleep.

Living in a world with constant access to news and information can be so overwhelming sometimes.

I invite you to try an 18 second breathing exercise designed to reduce stress and evoke a sense of calm and relaxation.

💚 Exhale to release tension
💚 Inhale for 4 seconds
💚 Hold for 6 seconds
💚 Exhale for 8 seconds
💚 Repeat 4 times (or as much as you need to)

If you tried this: do you notice that you feel any differently in your body, emotions or mindset? 🤔

💡 Tip: if emotions are high, try placing your hands on your heart or saying a kind word to yourself for welcoming this exercise into your day. 🫶

✨ Save this for whenever you need it or share with anyone who may benefit from disconnecting and reducing stress, even if just for two minutes.
