What is Ayurveda? Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old Indian system of care that holistically addresses the mind, body, and spirit. It emphasizes eating right to bring yourself back into balance, exercising, breathing fully, reducing stress, sleeping well, and other basic concepts to keep your body whole, balanced, and healthy.
You will be learning about the 5 great elements, Maha Bhutas and how they correspond with the body.
Level 1: AriAnne will guide you in identifying your dosha which is a fundamental bio-energetic force that governs physical, mental, and emotional processes in the body.
There are three doshas—Vata, Pitta,and Kapha each formed from a combination of the five elements (space, air, fire, water, and earth). Your unique combination of doshas determines your "Prakriti" (constitution), and understanding it helps you make choices about diet, exercise, and lifestyle to achieve balance, health, and harmony.
You will also be going over how to identify if you are balanced and unbalanced and practices that will can help you become better balanced.
AriAnne will will teach you what yoga practices and asanas correspond better with each dosha. This will allow you to build a yoga sequence for yourself or clients.
Just like the seasons change we will learn about how each dosha works with the times of the day and the seasons of the year. Helping us to understand how to keep our mind body and spirit balanced throughout the year.
Level 2: In Ayurveda food is medicine, we divide food into six categories: sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter, and astringent. Each taste corresponds to a dosha, and more or less of it can either create balance or imbalance. We will be learning some dosha specific diets and recipes to help keep you balanced and healthy. You will also receive a cookbook full of amazing Ayurvedic recipes and common cooking ingredients and herbs.
AriAnne will be preparing a recipe from the cookbook for lunch on day two. Teaching you how to incorporate the ingredients and techniques into each meal. balance to your health.
Level 1 Saturday 9 am to 4 pm with one hour lunch break.
Level 2 Sunday 9 am to 4 pm with a demo on cooking lunch.
