Please join us for WORLD QIGONG AND TAI CHI DAY

Celebrate these meditative, restorative and harmonic arts with us! Come to participate or just watch with Dr. Mindy Jaques, AP, DOM of Healing Waters Clinic in St. Augustine as she leads everyone in a qigong set to restore your Qi and balance your Yin and Yang. Then special guest Harry Waranch, local qigong teacher and body work specialist will lead everyone in the 8 Brocade to nourish Qi in all Five Elements and finally special guest Quincy Griffith, Taiji instructor and reiki practitioner, also a many times national Tai Chi (taijiquan) grand champion, will lead everyone in Silk Reeling and a simple Chen Taiji form or two.

There will be special demonstrations from each of the teachers that we hope will inspire you to begin a qigong or tai chi (or both!) journey of your own for health, healing, and peace. The event will be held at Vilano Beach Pavilion 9 am to noonish; though some can and will be meeting first at Fullerwood Park at 8 AM, to caravan over to the beach, as parking at the beach can be a challenge! Vilano Beach Pavillon Location: 2752 Anahma Drive, St. Augustine FL 32084

Cranesbill is primary use to treat diarrhea in children without side effects. Cranesbill is an unusually rich source of tannins and it’s used in poultices to treat pain from infection or inflammation. It can also be used to relieve recurring breast pain.

The tannins in cranesbill make it useful for treating a wide variety of conditions such as a sore throat, canker sores, ulcers, burns, gingivitis, leukorrhea, and hemorrhoids.

Ocimum tenuiflorum, a tropical species of tulsi or holy basil, is an herbaceous member of the mint family with purple stems and leaves that mature into a magenta color. This cousin of the common sweet basil is named Krishna holy basil after the beloved blue-skinned Hindu god. Historically, Krishna tulsi has been a significant herb in Ayurvedic medicine and is revered as a sacred plant in India. It is commonly cultivated near temples and private homes. It has a peppery, crisp taste and is typically drunk as tulsi tea.

Holy basil supports immune health to help you stay feeling your best.

Holy basil has been revered throughout India for thousands of years. Ayurvedic texts describe holy basil as a pillar of holistic herbal medicine and a goddess incarnated in plant form (the mother medicine of nature). Many traditional Hindus worship an alter bearing a holy basil plant that is placed in the courtyard of their home or in another prominent location. Today holy basil remains one of the most cherished of India’s sacred plants. The leaves smell of peppermint, cloves, licorice and/or lemon. There are three types of tulsi sold by Mountain Rose Herbs: Krishna, Rama, and Vana. All varieties belong to the mint family and are cousins of sweet basil.

While related to the more well-known Ocimum basilicum, the basil used in cooking, Holy Basil is a medicinal herb used to make teas and extracts. Considered a Sacred plant in India, old world medicinal practices such as in Ayurveda, Greek, Roman, and Siddha used Holy Basil to counteract stress and anxiety. It is considered an adaptogen since it does not affect mood but instead affect functions of the body.

The Rama and Krishna varieties share the interchangeable botanical names Ocimum tenuiflorum and Ocimum sanctum; the two Latin names are synonymous with each other. They are, however, more like fraternal twins: The Rama variety is a short, annual, heavily flowered plant originally introduced to the U.S. as “Holy Basil”. It is the most common type found in cultivation in the U.S. and is known for its cooling and mellow flavor. While not the most potent of the three varieties, it does have medicinal value and is considered to be the best tasting. Krishna has purple-tinged leaves and makes a delicious tea. It is the the most potent of the three varieties, testing highest in concentrations of adaptogenic triterpenoic acids, which affect the body’s response to stress.

Vana has its own Latin name: Ocimum gratissimum. It is the original wild bush basil. Vana is very high in eugenol, an analgesic and antiseptic. Its natural habitat ranges throughout India and across North Africa and down into East Africa. Of the three varieties, it is the most fragrant.

Organic kukicha tea is probably one of the most opulent blends from the green tea family. It has a unique brand of full body sweetness that is more often agreeable with seniors and children. Kukicha is harvested from the carefully aged twigs and stems of the tea plant. After aging, the twigs are toasted to provide a lightly flavored drink with a taste reminiscent of nectar sweetness. Mild and soothing, kukicha twig tea is quite low in caffeine and can be enjoyed at any hour.
