Every year at our Givers Gala, our Board Chair honors an outstanding member of our community whose leadership and service have made a lasting impact. This year, Board Chair Bobby Crum proudly presented the Chair’s Award to William E. Dudley, Chairman of the Veterans Council of St. Johns County.

William’s lifetime of service reflects an unwavering commitment to our community and our country. A retired United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, he served with distinction on active duty and in the Active Reserve Force before continuing his leadership through nearly 45 years in executive roles within the aerospace industry, including serving as President and CEO of multiple Fortune 500 companies in the United States, United Kingdom, and Singapore.

Since retiring in 2000, William has devoted himself fully to veterans advocacy and community service. As Chairman of the Veterans Council of St. Johns County, he has played a pivotal role in establishing the Veterans Treatment Court, creating Veterans Village to provide permanent housing for formerly homeless veterans, and expanding access to critical health care services for veterans across our region.

His extraordinary leadership has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Secretary of the Navy’s Superior Public Service Award, the Rear Admiral Kevin Delaney Hall of Fame Award, and the City of St. Augustine’s Order of La Florida, the city’s highest civilian honor.

We are proud to celebrate William E. Dudley’s remarkable legacy of leadership, service, and compassion, and to honor his continued impact on the lives of veterans and families throughout our community.

Join us in honoring Theresa Odom, Manager of Kitchen Operations at Bread of Life Palatka, as the recipient of the Nancy Burns Trailblazer Award, presented each year at our Givers Gala to recognize an individual whose service, compassion, and selfless leadership reflect the very heart of our mission.

This award celebrates individuals whose dedication and selflessness embody the legacy of Nancy Burns, who devoted her life to service so that all could thrive.

Theresa’s journey of service spans nearly three decades, beginning with a groundbreaking career in law enforcement as the first female patrol officer in Putnam County. Following her retirement, she found her true calling in community service through Bread of Life Palatka, where her leadership and compassion have transformed lives.

In 2019, what started as a short-term favor helping prepare meals for local families quickly evolved into full-time volunteer leadership during the revival of a struggling soup kitchen. Under Theresa’s guidance, Bread of Life Palatka became a standalone operation that now serves 125 to 150 lunches every day to food-insecure residents of Putnam County — at no cost and without judgment.

Theresa’s unwavering commitment and servant leadership are a powerful reflection of Nancy Burns’ legacy. We are honored to celebrate Theresa Odom’s trailblazing impact and her continued dedication to strengthening our Putnam County community.
