Your health doesn’t need perfect timing, perfect motivation, or the perfect plan. It just needs you to start. One walk, one workout, one healthy meal, one small step at a time. Growth happens when you’re willing to be uncomfortable and keep moving forward anyway.

Meet the serratus anterior - a powerful muscle that wraps around your rib cage and connects to your scapula. It plays a HUGE role in helping your scapula move smoothly and stay stable against your rib cage.

Why it matters? If this muscle is weak, your shoulder blade may become unstable leading to ➡️

- Winging scapula
- Shoulder impingement
- Instability
- Weakness with overhead movements

🔥 Try this Serratus Push Up: start in a plank position with arms straight and core engaged. Without bending your elbows, slowly lower your chest toward the floor by letting your shoulder blades come together. Then, push the ground away spreading your shoulder blades apart (this is they key part!!)
👉 Aim for 2-3 sets 10-15 reps

Difference Between Strength and Stability: Ever Wondered?

Strength is how much force your muscles can generate against resistance. Stability is how well your body controls that force to keep joints aligned and movements efficient. Both are necessary, but they serve different roles in healthy movement.

You can be strong 💪🏻 and still lack control, which can make you susceptible to injury.

This upside down kettlebell drill is a perfect example. The weight isn’t the challenge, control is.

If your shoulder feels off, shaky, or unpredictable with certain lifts, it might be a stability issue not just a strength issue. Train both!

Many people wait weeks or even months to get help because they believe they need an MRI or specialist referral before seeing a physical therapist.

In reality, most musculoskeletal issues respond very well to conservative treatment such as soft tissue mobilization, strengthening, mobility work, and improving movement patterns.

In fact, MRIs often shows things like disc bulges or tendon changes in people who have NO pain at all.

The earlier you address your pain, the easier it is to fix. Don’t wait for that image!

We love partnering with local businesses in the St. Augustine community that emphasize health and wellness🤍

Grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Kirsten and Tracy from Elase Med Spa and bridge the gap between aesthetics and musculoskeletal health.

When providers work together, patients benefit. Whether it’s TMJ dysfunction, chronic jaw tension, headaches, or neck pain — having a trusted referral network ensures people get comprehensive care, not just temporary relief.

Myth: Stretching the piriformis will rid your glute and sciatica pain

Most people are told, “Your piriformis muscle is tight. Just stretch it.” But there’s more to it! The piriformis muscle can overwork and become tight. Stretching may help provide temporary relief, but it doesn’t address WHY it’s tight. In some cases, stretching without adequate strength can cause a rebound effect, where the muscle tightens to compensate for instability.

Often times, an underactive (weak) glute med and max muscle and poor hip internal rotation control can contribute to an overworked (tight) piriformis muscle.

Stay tuned for our next post on what YOU can do to strengthen these muscles and help alleviate your glute pain!

Dry Needling: More Than Just Pain Relief

Dry needling is a skilled treatment used to target myofascial trigger points and dysfunctional soft tissue—helping your body reset and move better.

Benefits of dry needling include:
✅ Decreases muscle tension & trigger points (those “knots” you feel in the muscle belly
✅ Improves blood flow to irritated tissue
✅ Reduces local and referred pain
✅ Improves normal muscle activation patterns
✅ Improves range of motion
✅ Chemical washout! Helps flush out lactic acid buildup and restores the muscle’s normal chemical environment

✨ Best results happen when dry needling is paired with:
✔️ Manual soft tissue mobilization
✔️ Corrective exercises
✔️ Neuromuscular re-education
✔️ Movement retraining

Our team is trained and certified in dry needling. If you think dry needling would help you, call and ask us questions!

Most people think “tight hamstrings” = stretch more.
However, static stretching can actually temporarily inhibit our muscle from firing causing decreased strength and power, can increase nerve sensitivity, and may feel good short term but doesn’t fix the problem.

Dynamic stretching involves stretching THROUGH movement, which helps improve our joints range of motion under load without irritating the nerves.

Try this technique out for the hamstring muscles and see how it helps your mobility!

Why Big Toe Extension Matters!

This powerful little joint (1st MTP) is responsible for helping you move forward with every step, stride, or jump and maintains balance and stability throughout.

When big toe extension is limited, you may see decreased step length, increased stress at the calf, achilles, and even up to the low back, as well as pain or difficulty with lunging, jumping, walking, and running.

If you lack big toe extension, give this manual stretch a try.
