🦃 Creativity, Connection, and Community—Montessori in Action! 🦃

This Thanksgiving season, our Assisted Living and Memory Care residents teamed up to craft their own turkey decorations. One Memory Care resident even gifted her finished creation to the grandchildren of an AL resident—what a beautiful moment of sharing!

This hands-on, purposeful activity reflects the Montessori philosophy: empowering residents to create, connect, and contribute in meaningful ways. It’s more than crafts—it’s fostering independence, joy, and intergenerational bonds. 💙

🌅 A New Dawn for Diane 🌅

Diane was living with advanced osteoporosis that left her in constant pain and unable to care for herself or even leave her home. Her condition had progressed to the point where she could no longer sit at a dinner table without resting her head on it. When Diane’s daughter, Tricia, was diagnosed with a terminal illness and could no longer provide the care her mother needed, she turned to Bickford for help—entrusting us with the care and dignity her mother deserved.

Today we had a Pre-Thanksgiving celebration. We had family, crafts, cookies and bingo. Everyone had a wonderful time and the residents were very excited to get help making their Thankful Wreaths. Love and Thankfulness were in the air.

Today Bickford of St. Charles celebrated their annual Chili Cook-off. Each of the managers cooked up a steaming pot of their famous chili and brought it to the bistro. The residents and staff voted on his/her favorite and a winner was chosen. Congrats to all of the cooks. They worked hard and the residents enjoyed the cook-off.

🌸 Hospitality in Action: A Montessori-Inspired Community 🌸

Our Welcome Committee recently reimagined their role and became the Hospitality Committee, embracing a mission of creating meaningful connections. Their first question:
"What would have made you feel more at home when you first moved in?"

The answer? A warm meet-and-greet—and so the New Resident Luncheon was born!

Residents took the lead:
✅ Filling nametags
✅ Arranging flowers
✅ Choosing a live musician
✅ Handing out invitations

This hands-on involvement reflects the Montessori philosophy—empowering individuals to contribute, make choices, and create a sense of belonging. The result? A beautiful luncheon where new neighbors felt truly welcomed. 💙

Today we had a special presentation from Chris at the St. Charles Library. The presentation was all about Marshall Fields. We had a wonderful presentation with items from the store, such as the iconic bag and a menu from the Walnut Room. We also shared a box of the infamous Frango Mints. Thank you Chris for a wonderful presentation.

Today we had the pleasure of celebrating the 103rd birthday of one of our residents. We held a party for family, friends, residents and staff. We had entertainment from the Ukelele Club of St. Charles. We also had a special visit from our very own Mayor Hull who had a special proclamation for our birthday girl.

Yesterday we honored 7 residents who served in the Armed Forces. We had a beautiful ceremony that included musical entertainment from one of our vendor partners then honored each veteran by giving them a certificate and other patriotic gifts.

It is always wonderful to see neighbors helping each other to complete a task. These two worked hard to complete a puzzle together.

Today we completed an Escape Room challenge. By solving several puzzles we were able to diffuse a bomb. These two ladies worked hard to save the day.

Happy Hour is an important activity here at Bickford. it gives the residents a chance to socialize with each other while enjoying a cold soft drink or an adult beverage. This week we welcomed new residents and got to know them better.

We played a new game called Penny Pitch. Prizes were on some of the colored circles. Throw the penny. If you land on the prize circle you win. We all won something! It was a great game for all!!
