Happy Juneteenth! Today we celebrate the end of slavery in the United States. Today specifically marks the day, June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free, following the arrival of Union troops who announced the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation.
