Your eyes can easily be damaged by pollutants and sunlight
If your eye color is blue green or gray you are at a higher risk Also adding to a higher risk is if your pupil size is larger ( your eye doctor can measure this)
Check your medications for some can cause the eye to be more sensitive to sunlight
Example: Certain antibiotics, like tetracycline and doxycycline
Diseases such as diabetes, glaucoma, and cataracts can make you more susceptible to the effects of sunlight
To protect your eyes from the sun there were clip on sunglasses
Transitions lenses
Mirror coatings
Polarized lenses
For the best protection of your eyes
Here are my recommendations
Best sunglasses lens color in my experience for all around sun protection is called a G15 grey
Tip if you’re trying on store sunglasses and can see your eye when looking in the mirror- not dark enough
Tip Blue color lenses actually allow more of the yellow spectrum of light transmission- which is harmful to the eye
Transitions lenses are convenient for going in and out but keep in mind they only get 1/2 dark as a true sunglass lens ( they get darker in winter than summer)
And unless you’re driving a car from the 70s, they won’t darken inside the car
Mirror coatings are great for driving into the sun and protecting against reflected glare
Polarized lenses also are great for reflections and glare, but they can affect your depth of field. Commercial pilots can’t use them because the instrument panels are polarized glass. And I’ve had reports that cars and trucks newer technology panels are difficult to see.
Don’t forget to wear a cap and having natural tears to refresh the eye from wind and perspiration is a good idea
Last the interior of a vehicle can reach temperatures over 130 degrees- permanently damaging lenses and frames Not a good idea to leave glasses in a vehicle
