A Walk Lovers Lane
Joan & Marv Prater
Joan first laid eyes on Marv when she was out on a date(not with Marv) in down town St. Louis. She didn't know it yet, but running into Marv that night would change her life. Shortly after their first encounter Marv was able to secure Joan's number and gave her a call. They had their first date soon after and went to see a basketball game down town. Joan was initially attracted to Marv's thoughtfulness, how he respected her and the fact that he was not bossy. Joan knew she was in love a month after their first date.
The night Marv asked Joan for her hand in marriage they were at Joan's family home. She said "He got on one knee, pulled out a ring box and said will you marry me". Joan immediately said YES!
They were married April 11, 1959. Joan was 23 years old and Marv was 30 years old.
They enjoyed many things as a couple, but their favorite things to do together was fishing at the creek near Marv's family home and watching the Cardinal games together.
They eventually had 3 wonderful children, Terri, David and Andy and a whole bunch of grandchildren says Joan.
They were happily married for 63 years. Marv passed away at 93 years old.
I asked Joan what advice would you give to young married couple starting out. She said, ALWAYS listen to what your partner has to say.
