Many changes have happened this winter in the Recovery residence community, SCARY changes! On Feb 21, 2025 the DHS BLOCKED all payments from Nuway Alliances outpatient services substance use disorder treatment centers! Why is this devastating to the recovery community??? Because when the clients attended 20 hours per week of treatment it paid for their rent in sober living homes (SLH) or recovery residence (RR). A SLH or RR is not state or county funded, they are PRIVATELY FUNDED started by an entrepreneur who is extremely passionate/compassionate about substance use disorder and the people who suffer from it, along with mental health problems. Without SLH's the chance of success in recovery with treatment alone is around 40-50% VS near 85% success with long term treatment such as IOP and Sober living, with a healthy support system.
Currently DHS the Dept of Human Services has NOTHING planned for the hundreds-thousands of people who lost funding for housing!! So if we don't do something FAST the result is simple... MORE PEOPLE DIE!!! They will end up back living the hard life on the streets because the shelters are overflowing, or by choice because their full of drugs and crime. When you are surrounded by ppl using the chances of remaining abstinent are very low. Many will intentionally take their lives, as they feel they have no good options!
I for one will not sit back and watch this happen, without at least trying!! We have started a Non- profit called Anchor and Wings Project and our immediate goal is to raise money for women needing a bed in our recovery residence after they have completed inpatient treatment. We have many fundraising ideas we are playing with and have started already, but we need your help!! SLH's or RR's are VERY expensive to run, they are providing a roof over ppl's heads with ALL utilies including toilet paper, cleaning supplies, linens, beds, bedding, pillows, furniture, drug and alcohol tests, sometimes food, clothing, and everything one needs to live.
There is a board and lodge program in MN that is available however there are MANY hoops to jump through before licensing can happen at the city, county, and state level. This will take many, many months and many, many more dollars for fees at EVERY level. This is however our end goal!! While we do everything we can to work as hard as we can to raise funds for some wonderful people who really NEED our help, please consider donating! We will be doing some crowdfunding as well as garage sales, bake sales, and we have also started services such as housekeeping services, organizing homes, lawncare, meal prep, and much more!!
