This week at North Star Networking, we heard from Jordan Hess with Advantage One Insurance in St. Cloud during our weekly member presentation.

Jordan walked us through the different types of insurance coverage people should consider and why having the right coverage in place matters more than most people realize.

He also shared practical advice about what to do if you're involved in a car accident, including the steps to take, what information you should gather from others involved, and how the process can differ depending on whether the accident happens on public or private property.

It was a great reminder that preparation and the right coverage can make a stressful situation much easier to navigate.

Next Tuesday, we’ll be bringing all collected donations to our meeting for the United Way of Central Minnesota Basic Needs Drive.

If you’ve been meaning to grab a few hygiene items — now’s the time. Soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toilet paper — those everyday essentials make a real difference for local families.

This week at North Star Networking, we had the pleasure of hearing from Lydia Mattern with Hometown Title — and she gave us a great breakdown of what a title company actually does.

A lot of people hear “title company” and think, “They handle closings.”
Yes… but it’s so much more than that.

Lydia explained how title companies:
✔ Research property history
✔ Ensure clear ownership
✔ Identify liens or issues
✔ Protect buyers and lenders during real estate transactions

She also shared that she specializes in construction disbursement, which is huge for builders, contractors, and lenders. Managing draws properly, verifying progress, and making sure funds are distributed correctly protects everyone involved in a construction project.

It was an informative presentation and a great reminder of how important it is to have the right professionals on your team when real estate or construction projects are involved.

Our North Star Networking group is partnering with United Way of Central Minnesota to support local families who are struggling to afford basic necessities. Things many of us grab without thinking, like soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, and hygiene items, can be a real hardship for others in our community.

From now through February 28, 2026, we’re collecting basic-need donations to help families right here in Central Minnesota. Donations can be dropped off with participating North Star Networking members or directly at United Way and Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union locations.

Last week, our North Star Networking leadership team had the pleasure of welcoming Nate Van Heuveln, owner and founder of Criterian Counseling, as our weekly speaker. Nate is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Minnesota. He's also a part of North Star Networking!

One of our goals as a group is to intentionally bring in speakers throughout the year who help us grow not only as professionals but as people. Business ownership, leadership, and career growth come with real pressure, and we believe those conversations deserve a seat at the table too.

Nate shared insight into the stress cycle: how it starts, why so many of us stay stuck in it, and how unchecked stress can quietly impact our decision-making, relationships, health, and overall effectiveness. He also gave us practical tools to recognize when we’re in that cycle and, just as importantly, how to interrupt it and move forward in a healthier way.

The conversation sparked a lot of reflection and great discussion within the group, which is exactly what we aim for with our weekly presentations.

A big thank-you to Nate for his time, expertise, and for reminding us that growth includes taking care of ourselves along the way. We’re grateful for speakers who bring real value and meaningful perspective to our members.

This week, our group had the chance to hear from Amanda Bzdok, owner of Hands On Healing Massage. Amanda shared more about what she focuses on in her practice and why her work goes far beyond just “relaxation.”

She talked about being intentional with every client, really listening to what their body needs, and tailoring each session to support healing, pain relief, and long-term wellness.
