When it comes to birth, have you ever heard the phrase “cascade of interventions”? This is a series of events that can occur after just one intervention has been started (pitocin, epidural, induction, etc.) The idea is that it opens the door for many other interventions to occur, and could lead to a birth experience you do not want, envision, and [often times] results in interventions that aren’t necessary.
We can not stress this enough: the birth work you do during pregnancy is SO important. Knowing your options, knowing the risks and benefits and knowing what you want out of your birth experience will help the decision making process that much easier. Especially when you are in an extremely vulnerable position. We know that the more educated you are, the more you openly discuss and work through previous trauma. In addition, the more time you spend preparing your body for birth, the better the outcomes. We’ve seen it firsthand.
This post is NOT intended to make Mama’s feel any sort of way about a previous birth experience. You made the decisions you did with the knowledge you had at that time and that is NOT to be felt bad about! This post is purely informative. And we just want you to have the best experiences for YOU. No guilt, no shame, just healthy, informed and empowered mamas and babies. 💕
