With the start of summer activities, and family outings at the lake or any association with water, keep an eye out for harmful algal blooms (HAB). HABs can develop rapidly and they release toxins that can be harmful to humans and animals. Knowing how to identify HABs can keep your family, pets, and livestock safe.

HABs can look like foam, scum, mats, or paint floating on the water surface. They can smell bad and the water can look blue, green, brown, orange, red or paint-like. If you notice a HAB, please report it to KDHE at 855-422-5253, or at kdhe.ks.gov/HAB. You can also check at this same website to see if your lake is on the list of advisories for HABs.

The hepatitis B vaccine is recommended at birth because babies are at the highest risk of developing chronic hepatitis B if exposed.

Hepatitis B can spread through:
• An infected parent during birth
• A caregiver or household contact
• Unexpected exposures

Many people with hepatitis B don’t know they have it. The birth dose provides early protection, even before your baby leaves the hospital.

Hospital week came to an end on Friday! We want to 'Thank' our entire Team, whether that's nutrition services who prepare patient meals, laboratory technicians who run tests, environmental service staff who keep the facilities clean, providers who diagnose and treat illness, maintenance workers who keep equipment running - and all of the other (too many to count) people who keep our hospital going every day.
Whatever their role may be - We know your hard work happens behind the scenes, but your contribution is absolutely vital to patient care. Thank you for making our hospital extraordinary!"

With school out for the summer break, more families will be hitting the swimming pool or lake this summer.

Diarrhea is the most common illness linked to water we swim in – like pools and lakes. You can get diarrheas by swallowing water that has germs in it. Avoid spreading or getting diarrhea: stay out of the water when you have diarrhea and don’t swallow water you swim in.
