✨How to create a Calm Down Kit…and why!
Calm down kits and are a great tool for being able to regulate big feelings and emotions. It is great because they can be personalized to an individual child, and can also be portable to great to keep in the car and have on the go, but also for home.
💡It is great to make a calm space such as a corner in their room, but be sure NOT to use this as a time out space! This would be a great place to keep a weighted blanket, large cardboard box to make a fort or to color on, or even a mini trampoline.
A calm down kit ideas include:
✔️ sensory / activity book
✔️ age appropriate art supplies
✔️ a plush toy that is a comfort
✔️ flash cards that help describe current feelings
✔️ bubbles or pinwheels to help slow and focus breathing
✔️fidget toys (and these will vary for each child)
✔️ kinetic sand, slime, or playdoh (if they have a good place to use them)
✔️a journal for older kids to write out their feelings
✔️noise cancelling headphones
