Yoga Younion

Yoga Younion Yoga Younion is a movement based yoga asana studio. Come grow with us. A community oriented space to connect to yourself and others. Join us.

This is not a fitness studio, although strength, balance and flexibility gains can be a side effect of practicing yoga asana. Our classes include meditation, and yoga philosophy in addition to mindful movement and breathwork. Yoga can help you manage the stressors of daily life, it can also challenge you to grow on and off your mat. We're here to help you build compassion for self and others to create a more just and equal world.

I (April) am headed out of the country in a few weeks for a few weeks. I've been busy as a bee getting substitute teachers lined up and trained to take good care of everyone while I'm gone. Join Jenn on her maiden Yoga Younion teaching voyage tonight at 6:30 PM level 2 Expanding Capacity. Jenn is warm and kind and enthusiastic, and I'll be flowing alongside you, showing her the ropes of the backend side of things. See you on the mat!

It's here! I pre-orded this book last spring, and I have waited with baited breath for its arrival. I have had the privilege of taking online classes with through and in person . History, philosophy, and shining a light on how gender and caste influenced how yoga has been passed down over thousands of years. If anyone wants to unpack it with me, order it in time for the new year, is a great local option!

I've been teaching 8+ classes per week for over 10 years now. That's a lot. One way I stay inspired to keep teaching is through reading books. Mostly about yoga philosophy and topics around collective well being. Its even better when I can get them from my new local book shop, Two Rivers Bookstore. I'm so happy our town has a bookstore again! Skip Amazon and order directly from them ♡.

Your weekend reminder from the Muppets that time is illusory. Homosapiens= 300,000 years old, standardized clock time = about 400. That's a big difference! When worrying about to - Morrow, remember the present moment is the only one you ever truly "have."

Today, I had a new student in class who was teased (probably lovingly I would hope) by a family member (who is a yoga teacher) about coming to a chair class (because it's not real yoga).
If you know me, you know I had to bite my tongue. It's a common misconception that for yoga to be "real" it has to look a certain way.
What's the standard? See this book? If anything is a "standard" for Yoga (and even that depends on the lineage), it's this book. See what the definition of Yoga is? "Yoga is the stilling of changing states of mind." Not "yoga is a legs straight downward facing dog or 108 sun salutations or the ability to touch your toes or stand on your head". Over 500 pages and not one word about any of those things. If anything, Patanjali goes on to say, it doesn't matter what you concentrate your mind on, but concentrate it on something, on some aspect of present moment reality and that will lead you to a state of yoga. Which begins with a quieter mind. This is not dependent on what you can or can not physically do. Chair yoga is definitely not a lesser practice. If anything, chair yoga classes are filled with generational wisdom that I get to be surrounded by. I learn so much from my chair class students.

It's so often the little things that mean so much. Most of us in some way just want to feel appreciated. You gotta give what you want to get.

We need both effort 💥 and ease 💤 in our lives. It's the tension of opposites that bring steadyness and balance. For a little oomph and yoga outside the box, join Megan at noon 🕛 for Friday Fusion. An all levels lunch break class 🫶

Our Story

Yoga Younion is the St Helens community's own dedicated local Yoga studio. Our Schedule includes something for everyone. Whether you are brand new to Yoga or a long time practitioner we welcome you. Owner and instructor April Helton is a Yoga Alliance certified instructor holding her 200hr RYT and is pursuing her 500hr as well. April teaches with an emphasis on safety while building flexibility, balance, strength, self confidence and inner peace. We believe that there is an element of Yoga that will resonate with everyone and are here to support you whether you come to your mat for physical, mental or spiritual benefits. Deciding to pursue a Yoga practice is deeply satisfying on many levels. Unifying the mind body connection, students feel stronger and more at ease within their own bodies. Yoga facilities an inner stillness assisting us in managing life's changing circumstances. By reducing stress and anxiety we are better able to make healthy choices, regulate our emotional response and connect with our best self.
