On September 4th, 1998, Firefighter Eugene McDonough was killed in the line of duty when a wall collapsed during a fire at the PMI building in Lyndonville.

The fire was determined to have been intentionally set, making his death a homicide. The case remains unsolved. Anyone with any information on this case, or any other unsolved homicide, is asked to contact our Major Crimes Unit at http://vsp.vermont.gov/unsolved/homicide

Our regions fire danger rating is very high, a burn ban is in effect for the Town of St. Johnsbury. The US National Weather Service Burlington VT has issued a special weather statement warning of near critical fire weather due to the forecasted winds and low relative humidity. Please immediately report any outside fires by calling 911.

WATER CONSERVATION NOTICE: St. Johnsbury Water System
(including Passumpsic FD & St. Johnsbury Center FD)

All St. Johnsbury Water System users including consecutive water systems mentioned above are under a water conservation notice effective immediately. Please curtail non-essential water usage and other water-intensive tasks, including watering lawns and gardens, washing vehicles, spraying down driveways and filling pools.

The water system is experiencing record usage/demand due to the weather that has limited the recovery of our water storage tanks.

Thank you for your help, we expect this situation to resolve as daily temperatures return to normal levels.
