I know I can’t be the only one who saw that Sarah J. Maas announced a new book and felt a little excitement
It got me thinking about something I’ve been noticing more—not just in books, but in real life conversations too.
A lot of romantasy we love includes themes of intensity and tension when it comes to intimacy. It makes for a great story… but it can sometimes blur what’s actually normal in real life.
Just a gentle reminder 💛
Pain with intimacy isn’t something you’re meant to just “push through.”
Many women experience things like:
• discomfort
• dryness
• tightness or pressure
…and assume it’s just stress, hormones, or something they have to live with.
It’s actually really common—but that doesn’t mean it’s something you have to ignore.
I recently wrote a blog post exploring this a bit more—how what we read and see can shape expectations, and why these symptoms are worth paying attention to.
If this is something you’ve experienced, you’re definitely not alone. Health Elevated Pelvic Health Therapy

Nearly 1 in 4 women live with a pelvic floor disorder, and quality of life plummets in women who have pelvic floor-related conditions, including:

- Pelvic floor dysfunction
- Symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse
- Colorectal symptoms
- Urinary symptoms

Prolapse symptoms have the biggest impact, and the emotional component is the biggest influence on quality of life. Let's fix this together.

Try this simple pelvic floor release you can do at home ⤵️

〰️ Start on your back with knees bent and feet flat.

〰️ Inhale slowly through your nose and let your belly, ribs and pelvic floor gently soften and drop.

〰️ Exhale without squeezing or lifting, just let the tension melt.

〰️ Repeat for 6 to 8 slow breaths, focusing on relaxation instead of contraction.

ST. JOSEPH — There are some parts of health that are talked about openly, while others are not so much.

Strength does NOT make you immune to pelvic floor symptoms. Athletes, lifters, runners, busy moms, strong women of all kinds experience pelvic floor dysfunction.

If you’re dealing with pressure, leaks or pain, trust me, it is not a failure of strength. It is a sign.

For a looooong time, pain during s*x was considered:

😶 Completely normal and acceptable. Bleeding? No biggie. Aching, cramping, stabbing, tearing? That’s just how it is! Now continue to submit your body to a painful experience for the sake of your relationship.
🤨 Without a cause (for example, literally less than 10 years ago vulvodynia was considered idiopathic vulvar pain)
😬 Just anxiety. Or neuroticism. Or attention-seeking. Or frigidity.
🤧 A contagion. Something that’s so taboo to talk about, the whole room becomes uncomfortable at the mention of it.

But now we have more information than we’ve ever had. And that is so, so powerful.

💪 Pain during s*x, while common, isn’t something that we just need to endure because it “happens to everyone.”
🩺 It has causes (tons of them).
🧐 While anxiety and nervous system dysregulation can be a piece of the puzzle, we know that chalking it up to just that is reductive and dismissive.
🦸 And now enough people have at least heard how common painful s*x is that it’s not so scary or controversial to talk about.

Knowledge is power :)

I cannot say it loud enough! Quit normalizing these symptoms. These are not rites of passage and they are not things you have to push through.

Pelvic floor dysfunction is common, but it is treatable.
