🎥 IN ACTION: Cataract Surgery in Belize 🇧🇿👁️

Did you know that we rent loaner surgical scopes to mission-minded doctors heading overseas? One of our portable EyeMobil scopes recently traveled with Dr. Kim to Belize, where he joined a team providing cataract surgery in underserved areas.

With this powerful tool, dozens of patients received sight-restoring procedures — a new outlook on life, quite literally.

👁️ Big thanks to Niles Vision Clinic and Dr. Jeffrey Becraft for the incredible donation of eye care equipment! 🙌

Denise and Heidi had a great time checking out all the gear — some will head out on future mission trips, and some will stay right here to help local patients in need.

Every lens, light, and tool has the potential to restore sight and change lives. And thanks to generous partners like Dr. Becraft, we’re reminded that kindness doesn’t need to be flashy to make a big impact — sometimes, it’s just one eye at a time. 💙

✈️🔧 Behind the scenes at VOI looks a little like this—Heidi up a ladder, sorting through our well-traveled 🎒🧳 luggage collection. These bags have carried everything from scopes to IV fluids to life-changing medicines on mission trips around the world 🌍.

Some have earned their retirement (after years of hard work!). Thankfully, Roger and Denise found some great replacements at a local rummage sale 🛍️, giving us new bags to keep the mission moving forward.

Luggage is always a need for our medical missions—it’s how we get critical supplies into the hands of those who need them most.

🎉 80s Day at GLEC: Chuck Norris Vibes, Neon Dreams, and Giving Back! 🕺💖

The crew at Great Lakes Eye Care threw it back in serious style last week — from tutus to tracksuits and everything in between! Each staff member donated $3 to dress up, and those funds are on their way to Vision Outreach International to support our sight-saving work around the world. 🌍👁️

🎀 Emily went full neon queen in head-to-toe 80s — leg warmers, bangles, tutu and all!

Behind the Scenes: Packing for a Purpose 🇪🇨

Before our team sees even one patient, the work starts here—hauling 9 fully-packed suitcases full of surgical supplies, medications, and eye care tools.

🧳 These bags hold more than gear—they carry hope.
💸 But they don’t fly for free. Each extra bag is an added cost we take on to make sure no patient is left unseen.

Huge thanks to our partners, donors, and prayer warriors who help make these trips possible—from the supply room to the surgical room.

✨ A huge shoutout to Amanda Grove for her incredible generosity and creativity! ✨

Not only did she spend her time assembling post-surgical care packs for patients receiving cataract surgery on our upcoming mission to Ecuador, but she also surprised us with these amazing custom cookies—complete with our VOI logo, Bible verse, and some fun designs! 🍪🎉

Her kindness and attention to detail will make such a difference for those we serve. Thank you, Amanda, for bringing joy (and delicious treats) to the mission! ❤️👓✝️

👁️ February is Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) & Low Vision Awareness Month! 👁️‍🗨️

Did you know that AMD is a leading cause of vision loss among older adults? 🧓👵 While it doesn’t cause total blindness, it can make daily tasks—like reading and recognizing faces—much harder. But there are ways to protect your vision! 👀✨

💡 4 Steps to Keep Your Eyes Healthy:
✅ Get Regular Eye Exams – Early detection can help slow AMD progression. 🏥
🥗 Eat Eye-Friendly Foods – Leafy greens, colorful veggies, and omega-3-rich fish 🥦🐟
🚭 Quit Smoking – Smoking doubles the risk of developing AMD! ❌🚬
🕶️ Wear Sunglasses – Protect your eyes from harmful UV rays! 🌞

✨ A Story of Love & Sight in Jamaica ✨

From Debbie, a medical mission team member: "This past week, I witnessed incredible acts of love and resilience during Mission of Sight cataract surgeries in Jamaica. 🇯🇲✨ One story stood out—an example of selfless love that reminds me of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). ❤️

Meet Degrie—a woman of deep compassion. 💙 She cares for her neighbors, including her friend Ida, who lost her home in a devastating fire 🔥 (see second photo). Left with nothing, Ida moved into an infirmary, where depression has taken its toll. But Degrie didn’t turn away. Instead, she visits, raises funds, and is now gathering resources to rebuild a tiny home next to hers so she can care for Ida with love and dignity. 🏠💕

This week, we saw Degrie pray over Ida 🙏 as she went into surgery, holding her hand to keep her calm (first photo). Their story is one of over 60 lives touched this week—made possible by the selfless surgical team 🏥👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️ and the generosity of supporters like Cornerstone Church, who provided Bibles and devotionals 📖 to bring spiritual nourishment.

Each patient reminds us of faith, resilience, and gratitude. 💫 I thank God for the opportunity to learn from and be blessed by the Jamaican people. 🇯🇲❤️
