🎗️ October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month - a time to raise awareness, honor those affected and take action toward a healthier future.

Here in Southwest Michigan, your support through the Oncology Fund helps local patients in powerful ways - including covering the cost of screening mammograms for individuals who are uninsured, underinsured or facing high deductibles. These screenings are critical for early detection, which can lead to better outcomes and longer, healthier lives.

💕 Dig Pink Game Raises Over $2,500 for Breast Cancer Support 🏐

We’re celebrating the incredible spirit and generosity shown at this year’s Dig Pink volleyball game, hosted by Lakeshore High School, Stevensville, Michigan and joined by St. Joseph Public Schools. While the teams brought fierce competition to the court, the heart of the evening was all about community, compassion and a shared mission.

Together, through ticket sales, t-shirts, 50/50 raffle and bake sale, these amazing students and supporters raised more than $2,500 for breast cancer patients and survivors at the Marie Yeager Cancer Center.

Thank you to everyone who played, cheered, baked and gave. Your support helps bring comfort and care to those who need it most in our community.

Last night, we had the pleasure of hosting a special Board Social at breadbar for all the Corewell Health Lakeland Hospitals affiliated board members. It was a wonderful evening of connection, gratitude and shared purpose.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to each board member for their dedication and leadership. Your commitment helps drive our mission forward and ensures compassionate, high-quality healthcare for everyone in Southwest Michigan.

What an inspiring event! We were proud to sponsor the third annual Southwest Michigan Women in Medicine Symposium, which brought together more than 200 women—our largest turnout yet.

From physicians and nurses to residents and administrative leaders, the event highlighted the power of mentorship, collaboration, and shared experience.

🍴 Forks Up! Food Truck Rally - Thank You, Team! 💙

Last week, we served 3,150 meals to Corewell Health Lakeland Hospitals team members across St. Joseph, Niles, Watervliet and the Center for Outpatient Services - all to say thank you for the compassionate care they provide to our Southwest Michigan community.

Many came in early, stayed late or even stopped by on their day off to join the celebration. We’re so grateful for their dedication and heart.

The Eva Martin Project was created to provide comfort and help soothe children and their families during their hospital stay. Our three Corewell Health Lakeland Hospitals are proud recipients of these gifts for our most precious patients.

Supported by a Foundation department grant, our incredible occupational therapist Angel Page attended the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Conference in Philadelphia - a transformative experience already making a difference in the lives of our rehabilitation patients.

Over four days, Angel participated in nine educational sessions, earning 19 continuing education units and gaining cutting-edge knowledge in areas like:

🧠 Long COVID & occupational performance
🏠 OT’s role in home care for dependent patients
🧍‍♀️ High-intensity training in neuro rehab
🧓 Dementia, behaviors & fall prevention
💇‍♀️ Culturally inclusive hair care in OT

Angel also explored hundreds of innovative tools and devices that could enhance our services and improve patient outcomes.

“Learning the most up-to-date information and research-based treatment methods was incredibly inspiring. It pushed me to do what is best for our patients,” said Angel.

“Even if it seems scary at first, just do it. It will help you the rest of your life,” said 12-year-old Mikella Theriault.

After being diagnosed with scoliosis, Mikella began Schroth Therapy at Corewell Health, a specialized treatment that helps slow spinal curvature and improve posture, breathing and confidence. With the help of her therapist, Makenna Hartline, Mikella reduced spinal rotation, gained two inches in height and learned what it means to take charge of her well-being.

What made this care possible? Our Foundation, which funded Makenna’s advanced Schroth Therapy training, ensures expert care is available close to home for youth in our community.

“This therapy gave us a second chance,” said her mom, Terri. “We’re so grateful to the team at Corewell Health for helping Mikella stand taller, inside and out.”
