The Power of Posture: Unlocking Strength and Ease in Your Upper Back, Neck, and Shoulders Workshop with Jessica Gonsiorowski

An interactive yoga workshop to release stiffness, ease pain and gain greater understanding of your Upper Body. Join Jessica Gonsiorowski for a transformative workshop designed to help you explore the relationship between your posture, movement patterns, and the health of your upper back, neck and shoulders. Through posture exploration, yoga poses, basic anatomy, and mindful awareness, you will gain insight into how stiffness, weakness, or even pain in this area might be influenced by the way you carry yourself.

Although yoga is a great support in keeping your body healthy, it is not uncommon to take pre-existing imbalances into your yoga practice and therefore perpetuate some of these imbalances. The thoracic and cervical spine (upper Back) are a challenging area for most modern bodies. Long hours in front of computers and a head forward position (tech neck) can strain the back line of the body. Combine that with emotional stress, and you might experience tightness of the chest muscles, all of which contribute to much of the pain and lack of mobility in these areas. Mobility in the upper spine plays a major role in healthy shoulder mobility and vice versa and is therefore important to be explored together.

🧘🏼 This 3-week, all-levels series blends gentle yoga, mindful breathwork, and guided relaxation to help you release the day and restore balance.

🧘🏾‍♀️ Each week offers simple, accessible movement to ease tension in the body, calming breath practices to quiet the mind, and a soothing wind-down to leave you feeling centered and refreshed.

👍🏻Perfect for beginners and experienced students alike, this class is the middle ground between flow and yin—a practice to reset your body and mind so you can move into the rest of your week with ease.

Attendance to all 3 classes is not required to join. Class passes can be used or drop-in rates apply.

🌳 Week 1 – Release the Day
Ground and release tension with breath-driven movements that calm the mind and reconnect you to your body.

🎉 WELCOME KERRY TO YOGA LIFE 🎉

Although originally from South Africa, Kerry began practicing yoga right here in St. Joseph in 2003. Yoga quickly became an integral part in her life. After spending many years back in South Africa, She was recently drawn back to St Joe.

Kerry has been teaching yoga since 2009, but it was her first experience with Yin Yoga in 2016 that ignited her true passion for teaching. Yin and restorative yoga combined with the practice of meditation was for Kerry the key to deeper awareness and self-healing. This discovery deepened her commitment to sharing these practices with others and helping bring a sense of calm in a fast-paced world.

She is an RYT-500 certified yoga teacher, having completed her formal training under Christine Withiel at the Jivananda Center in Durban, South Africa. In 2020, she expanded her healing work by studying energy medicine under Alberto Villoldo with the Four Winds Society.

You can find Kerry Tuesdays evenings at 6pm for Restorative and Thursdays evenings at 4:15pm for Yin starting with our fall schedule, which begins September 2.

Ann is a certified Sound Practitioner of the Sound Healing Academy, as well as, an International Sound Therapy Association (ISTA) certified Therapeutic Sound Practitioner, 500 Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) and 200 RYT Kundalini Yoga instructor, and Reiki Master.

Bob Fowler is a lifelong musician and artist with a background in shamanism, meditation, massage therapy (400 hrs CMT), Hypnotherapy (300 hrs), Reiki (Master Level) and martial arts.

Yin Yoga on the Beach with Jenny!!

Sink into stillness as the waves roll in. This slow, meditative class invites you to release tension and restore balance through long-held grounded poses, deep breath, and the healing rhythm of the Lake. Calming guidance and the natural beauty of the beach make this the perfect practice to unwind, reset, and reconnect.

Yin is the cool, lunar, passive aspect of the Yoga asana (posture) practice. Asanas are held for 3-5 minutes to allow the denser layers of the body to unwind. Yin opens the connective tissues versus the muscles and allows practitioners to experience greater range of motion and flexibility. This class is a perfect compliment to any other traditional yoga practice and anyone who sits or stands during their day. Let the body and the mind rest into stillness as you find the yin to your yang. Beginners and all-levels welcome.

Please bring a mat or beach towel to practice on. Dress weather appropriate, include sunscreen and water. All-Levels are welcome to join us for this amazing opportunity to practice at the water’s edge on beautiful Lake Michigan.

Reservations are required to attend. Regular class passes can be used or drop-in rates apply.

We will meet at the far south end of the park next to the pavilion before the water treatment plant. Parking is NOT free at Lion’s Park Beach.
