It is an honor to share that a recording of the CSB + SJU Wind Ensemble performing IN THE OPEN AIR, IN THE SILENT LINES by Aaron Perrine has been selected by peer review for presentation as part of the Small Band Program Showcase at the 2025 CBDNA - College Band Directors National Association National Convention in Fort Worth, TX held March 26-29. We are one of seven ensembles selected nationwide.
CBDNA is “devoted to the teaching, performance, study, and cultivation of music, with particular focus on the wind band medium.” Through the Small Band Program Showcase, CDBNA “recognizes achievements in performance given by students and conductors from small band programs.” Qualifications include but are not limed to “1) total enrollment that is much smaller than the flagship or major regional schools within the state, 2) private schools, liberal arts schools, faith-based institutions, 3) a music department of less than 100 music majors, 4) a majority of the music teaching faculty are part-time or adjunct, and/or 5) primarily undergraduate schools.” As one of seven ensembles selected nationwide to participate in the Small Band Programs Showcase at the CBDNA National Convention (held biennially), this recognition serves as the pinnacle national honor for a college band program at institutions our size.
This honor not only represents the work completed in the Wind Ensemble classroom, but the additional learning and high-quality instruction these students receive from their applied lesson instructors, in their chamber ensembles, and in music courses that include theory, history, literature, and other topics. As this will be the Wind Ensemble’s third appearance in the CBDNA Small Band Program Showcase in the past six years (2019, 2023, and 2025), this invitation serves as a reminder that the CSB + SJU Music Department consistently offers opportunities to student musicians across all disciplines to perform music at the highest level.
