So proud of the best man in my wedding and dear friend for pursuing something that he is truly passionate about. He is leading the charge in addressing something that is very close to my heart. As a child that experienced concussions and a broken neck first hand this is a much needed resource that was not available to me at the time of my injuries. He is paving a path for so many that are in need of an advocate to help get them on a path to healing and diving deep into the underlying issues that surround this topic. Please share this with anyone you know working with someone who could use some additional direction for post concussion treatment plan. For anyone that reaches out to the Caze Institute make sure to give Dr. Caze a high five either in person or virtually and let him know how you discovered him
One of the biggest shifts in concussion management both in practice and research has been the focus on treatment. The challenge however is few are familiar with recent updates in the science and/or have not received extensive training in how to treat concussions.
Before explaining how we will approach treatment it is important to note some recent empirical findings:
• Those who are delayed to a specialty concussion provider (8 days or greater) are 5.8 times more likely to experience an injury lasting over 30 days.
• Not only does this mean more life disruption, but research also shows that injuries lasting over 30 days result in up to 3 times higher health care costs for injury.
• Those who are seen in the ER or Urgent Care are instantly more likely to pay 3 times more for their injury compared to being seen directly by a concussion specialist.
Given these findings, our commitment is to increase early access to specialty concussion care for all. Our goal will always be to have you seen within 24 hours, often seeing patients within the first hour when possible. Part of why Caze Concussion Institute offers so many virtual appointments is to increase this acute access.
