I was jolted awake this morning - on this the 115th anniversary of Juneteenth - out of a nightmare in which I was pinned under water and could not breathe. Taking that in. Below is the blog I wrote last week that was mostly cathartic for me, but friends have asked me to share. It practically wrote itself after I was accosted by a white woman spewing racial slurs and hatred while I was helping the clean up in Minneapolis after the riots. I will be spending this day reflecting upon it differently than I ever have previously, while continuing to consider how I can be part of the necessary change in a sustainable way.

Doing the work means building self-awareness of the good, the bad and the not-so-pretty within ourselves. Self-awareness breeds compassion and change.

I've been spending lots of time in reflection and reading on purpose and meaning, recognizing how many people and clients are struggling with identity, purpose and meaning given sudden changes due to Covid-19.

Here's a small thought to ignite a bit of positive change when you are feeling stuck: "The best way to find your purpose is to give your gifts in service of others." Richard Leider

Don't overthink it. Just do something simple that comes naturally for someone else and build on that. It may help you adapt to the changes around you and, even better, it may uncover a hidden identity that is more aligned with who you really are.

Be aware of your or others' dip toward loneliness. It can lead to mental health hurdles. Some tips are shared in this article that may be helpful. Ensō Wellbeing is centered around empowering individuals to become their own best advocates for health and well-being to thrive rather than live in status quo. When we get stuck in auto-pilot mode, we get stuck in many other ways of which we aren’t even aware. As we make even little shifts in our thoughts or actions, we begin to open to a new perspective on an old familiar story and, often without warning, a new path emerges in front of our eyes. Rather than giving advice, I partner with clients to facilitate their own discoveries of ways to shift from status quo and move toward their desired goal. In this way, clients become empowered and develop a newfound trust in their ability to achieve their goal because they tap into their own knowledge rather than being handed a “prescription.”

I have a true drive to help others thrive in life and do so in a way that best supports their whole selves (physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health). This is well-being to me and I love seeing people take ownership for it and discovering newfound ease in their lives from doing so. I’ve had the good fortune of being able to open to new perspectives to learn and grow from a number of difficult experiences, but I needed support along the way and I struggled for some time to find resources that felt right for my needs. My intention is to be a resource for those who resonate with my story and personality to guide them toward an empowered life.
