Today, on the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, we honor the bravery and sacrifice of the Greatest Generation. More than 16 million Americans answered the call to serve—including Dr. Randolph Scheen, now 100 years old, a proud U.S. Navy Seabee and resident of Belmont Village Senior Living St. Matthews.

As a young man, Dr. Scheen landed on the beaches of Iwo Jima in 1945, showing courage during one of the war’s most pivotal and harrowing battles. His service, and that of all who served, continues to inspire us today. 🙏❤️

Here's a look from behind-the-scenes of our incredible resident, Beverly L., aka "Bookmark Bev," who was featured on Spectrum News 1 for her dedication to childhood literacy by creating one-of-a-kind bookmarks that are distributed to area elementary schools to reward children for their reading achievements.

Fun Fact: She even has two of her bookmarks at the Smithsonian in Washington DC on permanent exhibit. After more than 30 years creating these unique treasures, she is looking for someone who shares her passion to take over the creation and distribution of this symbol of literacy. 😁📖

Today, we honor Vincent L., one of our incredible Belmont Village Senior Living Fort Lauderdale residents, whose dedication shaped generations of future leaders. From 1969 to 1988, he served as Chairman of the U.S. Naval Academy Committee for Accreditation of Engineering Programs. His leadership established and maintained nationally accredited programs that continue to uphold excellence at the Academy.

We had a fantastic time at our annual summer picnic and cookout! Valley Dairy Freeze Inc Ice Cream Truck was a big hit, bringing sweet treats to help us beat the heat. Our Executive Director, Ted, stepped up as the grill master, serving up delicious food hot off the grill. It was a wonderful afternoon filled with laughter, great food, and team spirit.
