The Cecil Specialty Clinic offers in person or telehealth appointments for PrEP medications for anyone living in KY or OH.

PrEP, or pre-exposure prophylaxis, is medicine people at risk for HIV take to prevent getting HIV from s*x or injection drug use. PrEP can stop HIV from taking hold and spreading throughout your body.

For more information, call (502) 894-9950 to discuss our PrEP services!

Don’t be silly, wrap your…

If used correctly each and every time you have s*x, condoms are effective at preventing STIs and pregnancies. Condoms help to reduce the risk of sharing bodily fluids.

You can still be at risk if the condom is used incorrectly, s*xual contact is made before putting the condom on, inappropriate lubrication is used based on condom material, or the condom is damaged before or during use.

Important things to remember:
-There are many types of condoms available for every type of s*xual activity: external condoms, internal condoms, dental dams, and finger condoms.
-Follow directions on the package when using condoms.
-If placed incorrectly, make sure to throw that condom away and use a new one.
-Talk to your partner about s*x - STIs, pregnancies, methods of protection, consent + whatever you need to know to feel comfortable before having s*x.

❓What do you know about Hep A & Hep B❓

Did you know there are vaccines for both? In fact, the Hepatitis B (HBV) vaccine is one of the most commonly used vaccines in the world!

Hepatitis A virus (HAV) is spread from contaminated food or water or contact with someone who is infected. Common symptoms are fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and sometimes a low-grade fever.

Hepatitis B is spread from person to person through blood, semen, or other body fluids. People with chronic HBV infections have approximately 15-25% risk of dying from hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver cancer, or other diseases caused by HBV according to the Hepatitis B Foundation.

Both HAV and HBV are entirely preventable!

HCV can lead to liver damage, liver failure, liver cancer, or even death.

Symptoms aren’t a great indicator of having an HCV infection, because not everyone with the virus has symptoms or they may develop long after being exposed and infected with HCV. Fatigue, nausea, and abdominal pain are some of the most common symptoms.

It is important to discuss any symptoms or HCV exposure with your doctor. If you have never been tested for HCV, the CDC recommends you do at least once in your lifetime!

Treatment, education, prevention and elimination starts with talking about Hepatitis C!

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) labs can be a little confusing!

HCV antibodies will remain positive if you have ever come in contact with the virus, but do NOT determine active infection. Additional testing with an HCV RNA test will identify if you have an active infection that may need treatment.

Talk to your healthcare provider to ensure you have been tested - the CDC recommends every individual in the United States be tested for HCV at least once in their lifetime!

The CDC recommends every individual in the United States be tested for Hep C at least once in their lifetime.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) harms the liver over time and disease progression is unpredictable. Getting tested is the first step to a HCV cure!

If you or someone you love has HCV, we can help!
