This Week’s Focus: Aparigraha

Aparigraha is the practice of letting go.
Loosening our grip.
Surrendering the need to control every outcome.

For a long time, I never thought of myself as a controlling person. I thought control meant trying to control other people. But over time, I began to realize how often I was trying to control outcomes, situations, timing, or what might happen next.

Especially after becoming a parent.

And honestly, this awareness changed me.

Because the truth is:
We cannot control how others choose to live.
We cannot control every outcome.
We cannot control everything that happens to us.

What we can do is learn to soften our grip.

I notice when I’m holding too tightly because my body tells me first. My chest tightens. My throat tightens. My breath becomes shallow.

And then comes the practice:
Pause.
Breathe.
Trust.
Release.

This week inside the studio, we’ll be exploring Aparigraha both on and off the mat. 🤍

Lately, Brooke and I keep finding ourselves in conversations about the amount of noise in the health and wellness space.

So much messaging around how we should look, age, perform, feel, and “improve.”

And while some things truly help people, it can also become overwhelming to constantly take in messages that make us feel like we are always lacking something.

This is what keeps bringing me back to yoga.

Not as performance, perfection, or another thing to achieve.

But as a practice that helps quiet the mental chatter and reconnect us to ourselves.

Little by little, every time you step onto your mat, you create space within.

You soften the noise.
You breathe.
You release.
You remember yourself again.

Yoga is for every body and every level.
There is nothing to prove here.

Just space to reconnect to the steadiness, wisdom, and grounding that already exist within you.

Symbolic of how I felt yesterday and today. So much weight hovering on one side, and on the other side I just want to curl into a child's pose and rest. I returned late Tuesday evening from my annual FL trip with my mom, sister, and the kids. The trip is honestly always everything I need at this point in the year. We basically just lay around, eat really good food, and soak up nature.

Coming back felt heavy this time, similar to the Sunday night stress people feel before the week starts. I have the most amazing team here, looking after the studio while I'm gone. And doing everything in her power to make sure I feel zero stress, I am so incredibly grateful. But being an adult, and a business owner, there is this big feeling of overwhelm after time away.

Today I was back in studio to teach lunchtime strength, and per usual seeing our members, their determination, and their smiling faces always helps me reset. I love this community so very much. Thank you for being you.
