This is Your Life Health & Wellness Coaching I'm a health coach for women in high burnout professions and those struggling with emotional eating. No! and blah; and quite frankly, worried about our future.

This is something that’s come up several times for people in my life and for my clients over the past few weeks.

Somewhere along the way, many of us have learned that having boundaries isn’t compassionate. When in reality, boundaries are necessary for compassion for ourselves and others..

One of my core values is compassion, and what that means in my life is when making decisions, I ask myself first is this compassionate to me and then is it compassionate to others. If the answer is no for it being compassionate to me first, then it becomes easier for me to set the necessary boundaries to prioritize compassion.

I don’t always get this right as a recovering people pleaser, and I’m getting better all the time because when something doesn’t feel quite right, I get curious rather than judgmental with myself.

When I don’t uphold my boundaries (which happens because I’m a human) I try to learn from the experience so it doesn’t keep happening.

I just read this story on failure from Entrepreneur Sara Blakely, the founder of Spanx, and it reminded me of the importance of trying and not being afraid to fail. Each time is an opportunity to learn.

"When my brother and I were growing up, my father would encourage us to fail. We'd sit around the dinner table and he'd ask, "What did you guys fail at this week?" If we had nothing to tell him, he'd be disappointed. The logic seems counterintuitive, but it worked beautifully.

He knew that many people become paralyzed by the fear of failure. They're constantly afraid of what others will think if they don't do a great job and, as a result, take no risks. My father wanted us to try everything and feel free to push the envelope. His attitude taught me to define failure as not trying something I want to do instead of not achieving the right outcome."

Recently I was on vacation in California and I got to go visit some wineries. We had incredible weather, and my favorite part of each visit to a new winery was the different scenery and learning about the process and the story of how each place became what it is today.

Wow!

Important to remember that these big “weight loss” organizations $$$ benefit from people staying stuck in the diet cycle and feelings of shame and guilt.

And it is predicted to reach over $700 billion by 2032. We are literally being sold weight loss as a goal. And only we can change that. The industry preys on, and magnifies, our insecurities to keep us buying weight loss foods, drinks, books, apps and more worryingly now – medication.

None of these get to the root cause of the problem. So, none of them will help long term.

Sometimes, it’s hard to manage our expectations, thinking we should be further ahead.

In reality, this is the path. It twists and turns, and sometimes we go backward for a minute only to be propelled forward the next.

Progress is not always predictable. There’s typically a trust in the process phase that’s not so comfortable.

And when we surrender to this windy path and keep showing up consistently, magic happens.

· We're looking for adults aged 19 years and older who are non-professional, unpaid caregivers to someone aged 55 and older who lives in the home setting.

· Looking to offer an 8-week (once/week), virtual health and wellness coaching program to informal caregivers to someone 55 years or older.

· Caregivers: Can earn up to $150 for participation in health and wellness coaching and before and after interviews.

· Care Recipients: Can earn up $40 for participation in this study.

The example we set for the kiddos in our lives matters.

How we talk about food and eating, the way we model eating behaviors, and how we talk about and treat our bodies teaches them how to behave as well.

Be mindful of the example you set.

As you go throughout your day eating or restricting, think of how it would feel to have a child you love mimicking your behavior.

Because they inevitably will.

Treat yourself as well as you treat the people you love!
