We are so excited to see you all tomorrow and introduce our last speaker!!!

Meet Karsten, an Assistant Teaching Professor at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, where he contributes to both academic and hospital-based education. His work and research focus on mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, practitioner well-being, and education.

He is a Fellow of the AARC and the National Academies of Practice, and has served in volunteer leadership roles with the PSRC, AARC, and SCCM, advocating for the continued growth and future of respiratory care. A frequent speaker at local and national conferences, Karsten is known for sharing practical insight that connects education, research, and real-world care.

And when he’s not in the classroom or on stage, you might just find him playing guitar 🎸

Dr. Rickard is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Minnesota and a trauma surgeon/intensivist with over a decade of experience at North Memorial. Her work spans trauma, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery. She’s bringing calm, skill, and precision to high-acuity care!

With advanced training from the University of Wisconsin, Rush University, Harvard, and the University of Minnesota, Dr. Rickard is also an NIH-funded investigator with over 100 publications and a global voice in surgical care, education, and infection research. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa.

With 35+ years in respiratory care and 30 years as a bedside ECMO specialist, Sharon Ritter brings unmatched experience across neonatal, pediatric, and adult populations.

A former leader at University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital and Gillette Children’s, she’s made a lasting impact through research, publications, and national presentations. Her work even earned Pediatric Abstract Category Winner at a National Quality & Safety Conference.
