Mad props to for creating this opt out for Mother's Day.

This time of year can feel like the infertility Olympics for people who are struggling to conceive. Mother's Day, Father's Day, pics of kiddos in their Sunday best on Easter filling the inbox and the feed.

While the option to opt out might not seem like a huge deal at first blush, it can mean the world to people who are fighting like mad to build their families, if for no other reason than to remove one more reminder of what's missing.

What does somebody going through infertility want? How can you support a friend, colleague, or family member going through this in a meaningful way?

💛 Call them and check in with them. Let them know you care.

💛 Listening without providing anything else is such a great way to help someone feel heard. It's all about them and they feel completely cared for.

💛 Ask how their treatments are going. Oftentimes, we might avoid asking because we don't want to make them uncomfortable, but many people going through infertility find talking about it helps them process the experience and prefer to talk about it.

💛 Sometimes just a text or a voicemail without expectation of response can mean the world to someone.

💛 All things usually come from a loving place, but seriously. No advice. Nonezo.

It's National Infertility Awareness Week. 1 in 8 (and getting closer to more like 1 in 6) couples will experience infertility in their lifetime.

The next time you're in a crowded room, look around you. These statistics mean that over 10% of the people around you have fought hard to build their families, some with often heartbreaking stories.

This week is about holding space for this population and being aware of their challenges without trying to fix or give advice. 1 in 8, you are not alone.
