Puppy yoga: equal parts chaos and cuteness 😂. Last week I had the joy of leading a puppy yoga class for the first time with pups from Coco’s Heart Rescue…what a beautiful reminder of why we show up on the mat—not for perfection but for presence. Breathing deeply while a puppy nibbles on your water bottle? That was a mindfulness I didn’t know that I needed.

Very grateful to have spent my Sunday afternoon with this amazing group of people! Together, we grounded ourselves through stretching, breath work, and writing. We contemplated questions such as: where we come from, what we value, and what gifts/legacy we would like to impart to others….we did the work of reconnecting to our “roots” in order to grow our branches and to see what blossoms within. Thank you JCC for hosting! &writing

🌸 Self-care isn’t selfish—it’s essential. 🌸

I’m so excited to share that I’ve just completed my Restorative Yoga certification this past weekend! 🧘‍♀️✨ This new training allows me to offer something truly special in our sessions at Heartwild Living, and I can’t wait to share it with you all.

In Restorative Yoga, we work on releasing the chronic stress we hold in our bodies. It’s not just about stretching—it’s about deeply relaxing every part of you, even down to the cellular level. We hold gentle poses for longer periods, supported by props, allowing the body to truly let go and release tension, right down to our bones.

Since returning from my amazing work retreat in Santa Fe, I’ve been experimenting with haiku and short form poetry. One of the presenters defined haiku as: “something hidden in a small place that nobody else sees but that the writer reveals.” Today I reveal to you the birdhouse in my backyard…how many times I’ve walked past you not noticing your simple beauty. You are the original tiny home! One window, one door—a less cluttered version of life lol

I tried a new recipe from my Nisha Vora cookbook (highly recommend the book if you have an Insta pot)…Millet-cauliflower Mash. So delicious and pretty easy to make. A good option if you’re looking to lower your gluten intake and perfectly warm and filling for this cold weather. You can buy loose grain millet at any Mississippi Market and usually at Whole Foods as well. I served my mash with sautéed spinach, mushrooms and an over easy egg. Enjoy!

“The flavor and sheer joy of non-doing are difficult for Americans to grasp because our culture places so much value on doing and progress. Even our leisure tends to be busy and mindless. The joy of non-doing is that nothing else needs to happen for this moment to be complete. The wisdom in it lies in knowing that something else surely will.” —Jon Kabat-Zinn

Today before teaching yoga at the JCC, I had a moment. Suddenly, it struck me that I’m getting paid to do something that I absolutely love and believe in…I felt so proud that I made this dream a reality. It led me to think about all the other things I feel immense gratitude for in my life…yes, there are a lot of crappy things happening in the world right now, but there is still a lot of good. Who is someone or something that you’re grateful for?

Lately, I’ve been focusing on the Buddhist principle of acceptance. On the mat, that might look and feel like holding pigeon on my left side, after months of p.t. when my hip feels stuck and ache-y, knowing that getting back to running is not in my near future. This could make me feel crabby, frustrated, unsatisfied and I might take these feelings out on the people around me and on myself. OR…I can try to breathe and accept what is: acceptance of present-moment reality. Over the weekend, I got a chance to practice more yoga off the mat…a super chilly weekend in Duluth with outdoor activities like hiking and cross-country skiing planned..that would not be happening in -25 F. Acceptance. Letting go of original plans. Flexibility, not physical but mental. That is probably my biggest gain from yoga: MENTAL flexibility. Enjoying each and every moment no matter how small and ordinary. Pretty amazing gain for holding some poses on a mat.
