Vida Midwifery Collective provides accessible, culturally competent and holistic reproductive care

Vida Midwifery Collective is a collectively owned and operated homebirth practice serving families in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. We are four midwives who have been working together for years to decades in different capacities. What brings us together is a deep desire to serve communities that usually have a hard time accessing homebirth care- communities of color, q***r folks, families

that are directly impacted by incarceration and low income/low resourced families. Our practice is centered around creating a sustainable model of midwifery in which our midwives maintain a healthy work life balance that allows us to be fully present for our clients. We are a multi-cultural intersectional midwifery team that brings a diversity of life experience to our practice. We believe that your cultural identity and lived experience are the most important factors in your healthcare. We combine these aspects of who we are and who you are to provide a unique model of midwifery care that is personalized, family centered, and loving.

We are so sad to share that Vida Midwifery is closing our doors, and we will not be opening a new home birth practice at this time.

We feel honored to have served so many wonderful families, and to have built such a beautiful community - we love you all so much.

At the same time, the reality is that our current home birth midwifery system and greater birth work culture is actively harming Black and BIPOC families and midwives, and we can no longer be silent about that. When we have a community where Black and BIPOC students can’t become midwives, can’t practice if they do graduate, and where our clients can’t access our services, we have a major problem.

It cannot and should not be left to us alone to fix this system that we did not create, but that was created to exclude us.

We urge our greater birth work community to consider their responsibility in this fight, and to stand with us to make change so that no future Black or BIPOC midwife has to have this experience, and so that Black and BIPOC families can receive the care they deserve.

Quiet, joyful, reverence. Sweet, triumphant baby snuggles uninterrupted by probing hands, bright lights or loud voices. Nourishing you as you nourish your baby. A slow, peaceful separation of the umbilical cord or no separation at all 🥰

Postpartum is the hidden homebirth gem, and we hear all the time how important and impactful the immediate postpartum was for our families 💕
