Young man with developmental disabilities seeks a person to assist him with activities of daily living, recreational and social activities. His disability is Angelman Syndrome. Although he has disabilities, he is not defined by them. just like everyone else, he likes to hang out with friends and family. He enjoys being out in the community, being outside, getting exercise, laughing and having fun.
He has his own home in the Crocus Hill neighborhood of Saint Paul and his parents live next door. Days are busy, active, and engaging. Duties include taking him on outings, social activities with friends, bike rides and walks. Position includes working on developing independence in all settings and facilitating communication skills.
Currently, because of COVID his activities are on Zoom, and safety restrictions are in place to keep him, his family and caregivers safe.
He has been incredibly fortunate to have smart, kind, and competent people caring for him over the years. They have changed his life as he has changed theirs. Ideal candidate is a person with career plans in medicine, special education, community integration, physical & occupational therapy or similar fields.
Prior experience is a plus, although kindness, caring, compassion and a quick study are the most important qualities for the position. Must be responsible, dependable, energetic, attentive and safety conscious. Must be able to make a one-year commitment to the position. Excellent pay and flexible hours.
