Our eyes are an extension of our body. It would make sense that our eyes are impacted by the food we eat and the medications we take.
Specifically with regard to dry eye and ocular surface disease, an anti-inflammatory diet is key to reducing your dry eye symptoms.
You guessed it - foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins D, C, E and A are ideal for your dry eye disease. These include: fish, nuts (almonds) and seeds (walnuts, chia or flax seeds), sweet potatoes, oranges, bananas and yogurt. There are many more foods that help - just make sure they’re high in those aforementioned nutrients.
Don’t forget to keep your body hydrated and drink enough water throughout your day, too.
Ocular surface disease usually requires more treatment than giving your body good nutrients, but it sure is a good place to start.
