WHY HAVENING RELEASES ENCODED TRAUMA SAFELY AND GENTLY! 👇👇👇

🧠 1. Delta waves = deep calm

Delta brainwaves (0.5–4 Hz) are the slowest of all brainwaves and are typically associated with:
• Deep sleep
• Deep relaxation
• Detachment from external awareness

When delta waves are present, the brain is in an ultra-calm state, ideal for processing emotions without re-triggering stress responses.

🧬 2. Havening activates delta waves

Havening uses soothing touch (on arms, face, and hands) combined with distraction techniques (like humming or counting).
This:
• Induces delta wave production
• Calms the amygdala (the brain’s fear center)
• Supports neuroplasticity, allowing traumatic memories to be re-coded or “unlinked” from emotional distress

🪄 3. Delta waves support memory reconsolidation

Based on the research conductrd by Dr. Ron Ruden, in the delta state, the brain becomes more receptive to changing how emotional memories are stored. This is key for:
• Reducing the emotional charge of past events
• Helping the brain “let go” of trauma or distress
• Supporting long-term emotional regulation

Thank you to Joan Bullemer, MA, LPCC, LADC, for inviting Midwest Haven to present on Havening Techniques® to students in the Social Work and Addiction Studies programs at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota this past week.

As an alumna of St. Mary’s, Nicole Carreon, LMFT, was honored to return to the institution that played a foundational role in launching her career in the mental health field. Nicole and co-founder, Holli Engelhart, LICSW, are grateful for the opportunity to introduce future clinicians to this innovative, neuroscience-based modality.

Midwest Haven is excited to see the next generation of mental health professionals explore new tools for healing and trauma-informed care.

Midwest Haven would like to extend our gratitude to Jade Erickson for inviting us to present to her "Clinical Practices with Trauma" class within the Cinical Social Work program at the University of St. Thomas. We always appreciate opportunities to share Havening Techniques® and this invitation held particular significance for Holli as it marked a return to her alma mater!

What stood out most was how engaged and present the students were throughout the presentation. Many had thoughtful questions and a clear desire to not only understand the theoretical underpinnings of Havening, but to explore how these psychosensory techniques could be practically applied in their clinical work.

This was an honor for us and we are proud to have met some of the brightest and courageous minds about to head out into their new journey as clinical mental health workers!

Havening Techniques® is a powerful tool for client work because it helps reduce stress, anxiety, and trauma-related responses by using touch and neurobiological mechanisms to rewire the brain. Developed by Dr. Ron Ruden and Dr. Steven Ruden, the extensive research recognized the most effective protocols for changing our brain responses- and Havening Techniques have been proven effective time and time again.
