Health Systems Cooperative Laundries (HSCL) is a cooperative association serving the Twin Cities metropolitan area. of laundry annually. In June 2004, HSCL completed renovation on a "state of the art" facility located at the "old" Stroh's/Hamm's brewery site in St. The investment in the facility and new sorting/washing/drying technology has allowed HSCL to realize the full potential in servicing t
heir customers in a more cost effective manner along with expanding the menu of services offered to their customers. HSCL was organized in 1996 through the merger of Hospital Linen Services and Community Hospital Linen Services; cooperatives that had been operating in St. Paul and Minneapolis for more than 40 years. Each predecessor laundry cooperative had separate ownership and operated independently. The merger was consummated to gain efficiencies of scale in linen processing, purchasing, and distribution. The principal ownership of HSCL includes five major health care providers in the Twin Cities; Allina Health, Fairview Health Services, HealthEast Care System, Park Nicollet Health System, and Children’s Health Care. HSCL processes approximately 28.5 million pounds of laundry annually for the member hospitals and affiliated outpatient facilities. The cooperative also processes non-member laundry on a contract basis of approximately 4.2 million pounds annually.
