Hello Everyone, it’s been a while since this account has been active as I’ve focused on client work and taking care of myself through the process. I’m writing this post to thank those who are still here with me and those who continue to support the work I do. To all of the people I’ve served, my family, my friends, my partner and my peers in the field I’m so grateful for you!

As I prepare some content to begin re-engaging with Instagram here is a newsletter you can view via the link in my bio on Instagram or the link on my business page on Facebook. Feel free to also subscribe with the link in my bio as well! I will put out updates and mental health resources every month. This will include an updated list of BIPOC Mental Health providers with openings for new clients! Please feel free to share this newsletter, any resources from it or the subscribe link with anyone!

Drop a comment or email me at stephanie@stpaulmntherapy.com to request any topics for future content!

Hi everyone, this one is pretty straight forward. I am very intentional about learning and celebrating outside of a dedicated holiday or month. During February, my engagement with Black History was focused on individual learning and growth. Sometimes social media feeds are flooded with so much great information during this month that will often go unseen or not be fully absorbed. This happens because of things like performative allyship, flooding of feeds and a lack of personal disclosure about content shared. Your followers are less likely to engage in content you are sharing without any action or self-disclosure regarding why the content you are sharing is important to you. Take a moment to reflect on your engagement with Black History.

How are you showing up?

I will continue to show up by sharing amazing content I saved from Black creators throughout Black History month. LOTS TO COME.

Let’s learn, grow and share.

Hello everyone, here is a part 2 for managing Imposter Syndrome. Sometimes Imposter Syndrome is something folx do not seek healing for/talk about out of fear they will be exposed as a “fraud, “not intelligent” and/or “not perfect”. There are ways you can alleviate the distress this syndrome creates and decrease how frequently these feelings occur. This is definitely something to consider sharing with a trusted, safe support such as a mentor, spiritual support, peer support, coach and/or mental health provider.

Hi everyone, H.A.L.T. is something I learned as a therapy intern in graduate school. I learned it as a tool helpful for folx in recovery from addiction or chemical use. H.A.L.T. Stands for Hungry - Angry - Lonely - Tired; all common symptoms of withdrawal and also basic needs that can cause distress if not met. The idea is to use this as a tool to assess if your needs are met and provide an opportunity to meet them before engaging in a potentially self-destructive behavior. This is also helpful for any moment of distress. Especially right now. Especially if you experience Imposter Syndrome.

Swipe to see how some of our basic needs may go unmet when we experience Imposter Syndrome. Taking a moment to ground yourself in the present with some mental or physical grounding techniques might help. Checking in with a trusted support person in your life might help. Nourishing your mind or body with fuel might help. Rest might help. Taking breaks from distressing feelings or thoughts by napping, distracting or connecting with the land might help. Bottom line, managing the thoughts and feelings around Imposter Syndrome involve meeting your mental, physical and emotional needs. Often, you might find yourself intellectualizing your feelings or trying to rationalize your way out of feeling them when you actually need to regulate with something like H.A.L.T.

Check in with yourself. Are you Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired? This might be a daily occurrence for you right now. Making space for nourishment and regulation instead of trying to process "why" or passing judgement on yourself might help. It is okay to not be okay. You don't need a reason "why" you feel the way you do to start practicing what might work for you to experience some relief.

Reminder: There is no “wrong” way to enter a new year. There is no shame in feeling nothing, the same or worse. Turn towards yourself and check in with your needs. Nurture yourself through your experience. and -only if you have the capacity- nurture those around you.

Let’s keep healing through 2021 with compassion for self and others.

White people, antiracism is a lifelong journey. These are only a few ways White Supremacy is perpetuated on a regular basis. Even if you are actively engaged in antiracism, pause and re-evaluate what your engagement looks like. Does it involve holding other white people accountable? Does it involve other white people at all? Holding yourselves and other White People accountable is an integral part of antiracism. Without it, White Supremacy will continue to come full circle.
