The "living at home/block nurse program" is uniquely Minnesota concept in that a group of neighbors in a specific geographic area organizes to support and operate a program to provide in-home help and health care to seniors to enable them to stay in their homes and still function "on their own" instead of moving to more expensive housing such as assisted living apartments or care centers. This hel

p and health care is provided through the "living at home/block nurse program" by volunteers, family members, and professionals. The program is staffed by an executive director and volunteer services coordinator who direct the proper resources to the senior who is requesting help, and operate all facets of the program with the oversight of a board of directors. Funding is provided by state, county and city grants; donations; and coverage under the senior's healthy insurance (private pay or Medicare).
