Wingspan Life Resources is seeking warm and caring Direct Support Professionals (DSP) for Part Time, Full Time, and On Call shifts providing services to people with developmental and other disabilities in our group homes in Minneapolis, Saint Paul and the surrounding metro area. Only 10 days until Disability Services Day at the Capitol! The event kicks off at 10:00am in the Capitol Rotunda and everyone is welcome to participate in a day of advocacy and empowerment.

If you're planning on attending, consider this:

🪽Parking near the capitol will be limited! If you can, plan a carpool.
🪽Metal detector and bag screening have been implemented at the Capitol. These measures could mean extra wait time to enter the rotunda with the expected crowd. It’s (almost) that time of year where we put away the snow shovels and grab our rakes and trowels! Like any home, Wingspan’s group homes all have spring cleaning and gardening needs. Our yard beautification efforts are entirely volunteer-driven and we always have projects available at homes throughout the Twin Cities.

Reach out today to set up a volunteer project for your Wingspan neighbors! Email Marketing and Community Engagement Specialist, Keller Karlstrom, at kkarlstrom@wingspanlife.org, or call at 701-205-6233. Individuals or groups are welcome.

Can’t find time to volunteer? There’s more than one way to be a good neighbor! Our Gertens fundraising site is live! Visit www.gertensfundraising.com and enter code 780 to browse gorgeous hanging baskets, plants, herbs, succulents and plant gift cards! Wingspan will receive 30% of every flower/plant sale and 15% of every gift card purchase to help cover maintenance and yard beautification project expenses.

Our Circle Weaving class with COMPAS Teaching Artist Chiaki O'Brien continued this week at the Learning Lab!

Participants picked up their projects from last week and kept weaving colorful yarn, felt, and fabric into their circular designs. A few participants even finished their pieces today and proudly showed off their beautiful creations. Some have even started new projects which they will continue next week.

We kicked off our new Circle Weaving residency this morning with COMPAS Teaching Artist Chiaki O’Brien!

Participants learned about looms and weaving techniques and began creating their own circular weavings using embroidery hoops as looms. With yarn, felt, and fabric in bright colors and fun textures, each participant started designing their own unique piece.

Thank you to Chiaki for her thoughtful guidance and kind patience as she introduced everyone to the art of weaving. We’re excited to see how our participants' projects grow when class continues next Tuesday!

It's one month until Disability Services Day at the Capitol!

Every year, thousands of people gather at the Minnesota State Capitol Rotunda to advocate for the needs of people impacted by disabilities, as well as the Direct Service Professionals (DSPs) who help them. People with disabilities, along with their families, local leaders and caregivers all take part. You can too! It’s a day of taking pride in and celebrating who we are!

Our DSPs work very hard, and a big part of what we advocate for is the funding that lets our caregivers get the fair wages they deserve. We also want to make sure that no voice goes unheard. Just because someone lives with a disability doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have an opportunity speak up and let people know their wishes and dreams.

Add your voice to ours! The event kicks off at 10:00am, but allow time for a big crowd and new security screening measures at the Capitol.
