Let’s Open Some Doors
Accessible Space, Inc.
Providing “housing with care.”
For 41 years, Accessible Space, Inc. (ASI) has been providing accessible, affordable and supportive “housing with care” opportunities for people with physical disabilities and brain injuries, as well as for seniors and most recently for veterans. Stephen Wiggins and college friend, Charles Berg, were on a quest for a better housing alternative as a way to support a friend, Michael Pesch, who had tragically broken his neck diving into a shallow northern Minnesota lake. As a result of their tenacity and foresight, by 1980, 30 very low-income people with physical disabilities lived in five accessible homes and received care services on a 24/7/365 shared basis. ASI serves over 3,790 adults with disabilities and/or veterans and seniors in 154 community settings in Minnesota and 30 other states.
