Day 67 (Part 3- Day 30)
Lock & Dam 7 (La Crescent, MN) β‘οΈ Lock & Dam 8 (Genoa, WI)
22 miles today, 2332 miles total!πππ
That's a wrap! Salty's Mississippi Movemenet has officially come to an end as Ian's brother, Adam, helped him paddle the last 22 miles!
It was a beautiful fall day on the water. Sunny skies with a slight breeze.
Today was symbolic in sooo many ways!
If you remember, Ian and Rick ended Part 1 of the journey in La Crescent, MN, just after Lock & Dam No. 7. Then, Ian and Adam started Part 2 in Genoa, WI, just after Lock and Dam No. 8.
Today, Ian and Adam finished the leg between the 2 lock systems- tying all 3 parts of the journey together! Kind of crazy that we didn't even plan it out that way, that's just how life happened. We'll say it over and over again, everything happens for a reason!
September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, National Recovery Month, and Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
As advocates for the Movember Foundation, it's easy to assume we only talk about men's health issues during the month of November. However, the more we talk about it, the more people we can reach! Help is out there and we want you to know it!
Ian is a military veteran, after serving 9 years in the Army National Guard. He is also a recovering alcoholic, celebrating 9 years alcohol free! (September is the 9th month of the yearπ)
He's living proof that you can overcome your demons and help others in the process. Life is hard, but it's even harder when you try to do it by yourself.
The Veteran Administration statistics confirm 22 Veterans a day are succumbing to su***de on American soil.
These last 22 miles of the River are to honor those soldiersπΊπΈ
988 is an available resource for all those struggling with mental health. Please reach out. You are loved. You are appreciated. You are worthy. You matter. Please stay. π
The cherry on top of this journey was finishing it with his little brother. As kids, Ian and Adam used to talk about canoeing the Mississippi River one day. Today, that dream became reality.
Speaking of kids, I wonder what the kids now days will think of us finishing the River in 67 days! IYKYKπ
