Rocksteady Life

Rocksteady Life I meet families where they are, regardless of their location or financial situation, and offer individualized holistic care and resources. Hey y’all!

My name is Sally (they/them) and I am located in St. Paul, Minnesota, offering support to folx who find themselves navigating various transitions and life situations. I used to call myself a Life Doula – a title I coined when I started Rocksteady Life in September 2018. Most recently, I have changed my title to “Deathwalker,” in an attempt to center the death process that occurs in my office whenever my clients move past old stories, identities and belief systems. I have an MA in English: Publishing & Print Culture, which drives my passion for researching, teaching and learning. I specialize in helping clients identify memory patterns in their bodies by weaving together Craniosacral therapy, Biofield Tuning, Ancestral healing & Animism, Astrology/Tarot/Human Design, Reiki, Death Doula/Grief/Loss work, Somatic Experiencing, Mindfulness and Holistic Nutrition. I offer in-person, virtual or outdoor sessions. I love working with any age of human, from young kids to elders, and will also work with your companion animals. I am passionate about:

- holding space for queer identities
- dismantling internalized systems of oppression
- using time travel to explore patterns of behavior and unconscious habits
- investigating the ways in which our energy bodies are informed by our surroundings
- shapeshifting our internal monologue
- noticing energies around us and defining what is "ours" and what is "not ours"
- reconnecting with healthy boundaries
- understanding that energy signatures change
- creating new possibilities of self by pulling at the threads of our storylines
- bridging the physical with the metaphysical/spiritual
- inviting ancestral support to integrate intergenerational wounds
- leaning into webs of collective support
- rediscovering our identities/seed selves as a path to autonomy
- exploring the mystical, magical and witchy
- incorporating cellular energetic healing through intention, energy work, diet and reclaiming our sovereignty
- being with/in nature
- grieving, in all its mysterious and complex ways, and embracing rituals
- laughing, dancing and embracing my inner child (lots of laughter happens in session)

***I focus on integration, not healing. There will always be scars and memories, but we have the power to rewrite "the narrative" by honoring the stories that are held in our bodies, which, at times, are in direct conflict with the stories we tell ourselves and others. My intention is to hold space for clients who wish to reclaim a sense of trust in, and within, their bodies. This is big, slow work and while healing may occur, there is no agenda or promise on my end to fix or cure someone or something. We are not broken lamps. We are human beings.***

Western Astrology placements: Scorpio Sun, Libra Rising, Aquarius Moon. Vedic/Sidereal: Libra Sun, Libra Rising, Capricorn Moon.Human Design: Quad right 5/1 Splenic Manifestor. Sliding scale payments: $150-$300 per session (rate is negotiable and based on your individual circumstances). Intake sessions are 90 minutes and follow-up sessions are either 60 or 90 minutes. The organization that taught me Biofield Tuning has a beautiful offering for anyone who is struggling. It's a set of free tunings to help you ground and move through fear. Please share with your beloveds! You can listen to them as many times as you like - I sometimes listen to a tuning per day (it's kind of like listening to a guided meditation, but it's using sound to help bring awareness to patterns in your body and reconcile any discord).

Sending love to you and yours.

Here's the intake form for the Collective Embodiment series that starts next week.

Monday nights @ 7pm CST: Helping Professionals Group

Starting Monday, January 6th and lasting 6 weeks

This group is for anyone who identifies as a “helper.” You could be a teacher, therapist, nurse, bodyworker, fire fighter, EMT, doctor, parent, etc. It’s a really big identity container (on purpose) and really anyone can find a way to fit in this label.

Wednesdays @ 4pm CST: Grief & Loss Group

Starting Wednesday, January 8th and lasting 6 weeks

This is another large container because we are ALL grieving something. Whether it’s the loss of a person or companion animal, job change, marriage, birth, body dysphoria, questioning identity, losing a friendship, receiving a diagnosis, struggling with climate change, still trying to understand the political climate of everywhere, living in a capitalistic country, choosing to leave an abusive relationship, etc, it’s a loss. And we grieve. Anyone and everyone is also welcome to join this group.

If you fill out the intake form, I'll send you the Zoom links and payment information (sliding scale $20-$50 per session).

Much love to you and yours!

This intake form is for new or current clients who wish to participate in group session work online.

Happy New Year, y'all!

In 2025, I am accepting new one-on-one clients and starting two different embodiment groups online!

Reach out if you are ready to shift old patterns, work through intergenerational trauma, receive support for grief and loss and explore who you were (and want to be).

Every day is an opportunity to change, stretch and grow. Laughter, ease, joy and peace are always accessible, but it definitely takes work (and sometimes a witness) to find, integrate and move beyond the stories we tell. This is my passion and my life's work. I've got you.

Collective Embodiment for Helping Professionals starts Monday, January 6th @ 7pm CST

Collective Embodiment for Grief & Loss starts on Wednesday, January 8th @ 4pm CST

I'm still hoping to fill these drop-in, 6 week support groups!

Both of my offerings are online (wintry weather won't get in the way!) and payment is sliding scale ($20-$50 per session).

I'm sending y'all big love as we move into an uncertain and possibly unstable time. If we step towards one another in vulnerability and truth, we can feel deep support and get through the tough times. Autonomy, agency and resiliency can be individual and collective - it's so important to find our folx and stay rocksteady.

Hello! For the past six years I have focused on working one-on-one with clients and haven't offered group work - until now! As we teeter into Mercury Retrograde, a week after Pluto has fully entered Aquarius, I have decided to offer demographic-specific group sessions. In order to craft the perfect group dynamic, setting, time, and container, I'd love your input!

If you are interested in a collective support system, please fill out this form. If you know someone else who is looking for support, feel free to pass it on!

I appreciate you!

Rest is radical.

Capitalism pushes us to hustle, to grind, to create lists and successfully check off the items.

Rest invites us to step back; to notice the urgency and remain curious about it.

Are we grappling with a deeply engrained pattern, or is our urgency about survival?

What feels disconnected?

What void are we trying to fill?

How can we come back into a state of trust within ourselves?

It is possible to remember that we have always been able to trust ourselves and our feelings.

The outside world, with its tantalizing storylines and adrenaline-infused doom, hijacks our sense of internalized trust.

And to that end, I invite rest.

But let me tell you what I believe rest *can* be.

It can be whatever fills you up; whatever makes you feel a sense of safety and trust within yourself. An (in)activity that brings joy, ease, laughter or a sense of purpose.

Notice if you need the rest of movement, or the rest of non-movement.

Sometimes you will need to sit with whatever is coming up for you.

Other times you will literally need to sleep.

Oftentimes you will need to talk with someone.

And sometimes you will need to
run
walk
skip
jump
dance
hike
create art
bake
sing
paint a room
clean a space
buy groceries
go to the gym
show up to a party
see live music or theater
work in your yard
garden

The main thing is to give yourself permission to redefine rest and to let yourself fully experience whatever rises to the surface.

And maybe you can do this without creating a list.

You can trust yourself to meet your own needs and identify whatever feels nourishing to you in this moment.

It is possible and it is absolutely necessary to regain a sense of agency.

And if your rest requires other humans, remember that you can root into the systems of support that are always there to guide you and hold you, as you need them.

All you have to do is ask.

To all the helpers out there.

Pause.
Take a breath.

Feel your body’s contact with the surface you are touching (whether it is a chair, a bed, the ground)

How much access do you have to your feet?

Can you bring your awareness through all parts of your body and into them, or do you simply “know” that they are there?

Take another breath.

Are you getting a deep breath, or does it feel shallow?

As you breathe, bring your breath into all of the parts of your torso.

Your upper ribs and collarbone.
Your heart.
Your shoulder blades.
The sides of your ribs.
All around your diaphragm.
Your belly button.
Your pelvic floor.

Notice the room around you.
What texture can you feel?
Is there anything that catches your attention (through sight, sound, taste, touch or smell)?
Give yourself permission to enjoy whatever you encounter, for as long as you can stay with it.

On your next exhale, bring your awareness all the way down through your feet.

Do this as many times as you need.

As you notice your body’s contact with a surface, bring your awareness to the back of your body.
Lift that awareness to your bones.
The deepest part of you.
Your memories reside in your bones.
They are always there, vibrantly alive inside you, giving your body shape and form.
Full of electricity.
Supporting you.

As you support others around you, remember to return to your bones.

They hold a great wisdom and can reorient you back into yourself.

It is not your job to fix anything.

The greatest gift is to be present with an awareness of your current capacity.

If you feel overwhelmed, exhausted or unable to show up, don’t.

Call in sick.

Stay home.

Give yourself the time and space that you need to come back home to yourself.

We have a long road ahead and we all need to care for ourselves as deeply as we care for others.

You’ve got this.

I’m here with you.

A note from a trauma-informed Deathwalker.

This is a tower moment.

What you may be experiencing is a normal nervous system response to a threat. You are grappling with a sense of distrust, a lack of safety. How you have responded in the past may dictate how you are responding right now. You might also be oscillating between various stages. Again, this is a normal and valid response.

Your flight response is valid (wanting to leave the country)
Your fight response is valid (building the resistance)
Your freeze response is valid (unable to move or do anything)
Your dissociative state is valid (feeling numb and foggy)
All of your feelings are valid

Additionally, this is what grief feels like. You are grieving. It is wild, untethered, loud, messy and sometimes explosive. There is no right or wrong way to grieve. Just let it move through you and feel all of the feelings as they arrive. If you feel overwhelmed or completely disembodied, here are some embodiment practices.

Get outside.
Look up at the sky and feel into the vastness of space.
Lean against a tree.
Watch the leaves fall.
Listen to the birds sing.
Smell the crisp, fall air.
Sit by a body of water.
Go for a walk.
Spend time with your beloveds.
Spend time with your animals.
Cry.
Laugh.
Scream.
Sing.
Dance.
Listen to music.
Watch netflix for the next forever.
Plan a trip.
Go for a drive.
Buy yourself a fancy coffee.
Get a new shirt.
Schedule a massage or acupuncture.
Talk to your neighbors.
Sit in silence.
Breathe.
Shake it all off.

Engage in whatever coping mechanisms feel grounding, supportive, nourishing, connecting or loving. Again, there is no right or wrong way to move through this. Just keep moving, even subtly. You are simply surviving this day.

But whatever you may do, please do not tell anyone that things will get better. Do not remind the grievers of the silver lining. We are uninterested in these things. We need to feel our anger, sadness, fear and disbelief.

If you feel like you need to say something, notice how you would feel if someone said it to you. It is not your job to curate or manage anyone else's emotional state. We get to have our feelings and our experiences. We are still here and breathing, with hearts beating (even though it might not feel like it), and we just need validation. So, if you feel that discomfort or sense of urgency to fix, just say "I hear you. I'm here." Or simply sit with us in silence. Sometimes we just need physical presence with no words.

Today is a very hard day. It feels heavy, dense, numbing and it's hard to see beyond our own two feet. But I am still here, walking beside you. Sending you love from the foggy mists of Minnesota.

Sally

Sally Palmer, Life Doula

Rocksteady Life is the result of nine years as a stay-at-home parent. I should pause here to mention that I’m incredibly grateful that I was able to stay home, and understand that it’s not a decision that many other people have the luxury of making. That being said, before having children, I never anticipated staying home with one child, let alone two. It just happened. As I lived through those nine years, I rarely regretted my decision to stay home. Life kept throwing different situations my way and staying at home allowed me to give my children what they needed, without completely burning myself out. I have the utmost respect and empathy for the parents out there who are trying to juggle work and home life. I’m right there with you as I balance my business and personal life.

I know that I don’t have to tell other parents that being a parent is the hardest job you’ll ever have, but it’s true. It has been a very intense chapter in my life and I’ve personally struggled to keep my own balance. Along the way, though, I’ve connected with amazing therapists and holistic workers who have empowered me to help my children, and myself, with our various needs.

Right before having children, I earned a Master’s Degree in Publishing and Print Culture, with an emphasis on Mexican Social Movements. I used school as a way to travel around the world and experience different cultures, which led to learning about Holistic Medicine. I lived with an amazing woman in Mexico, who taught me how to identify plants, use essential oils and create salves. She sparked my curiosity in natural medicine and as a result, finding alternative cures for common ailments has become my passion. If I don’t know about a disease or condition, I will find the answer. My researching instinct is driven by my love of books and knowledge; plus, it’s incredibly empowering to find supplements and lifestyle changes that actually work.

As a result of my motivation, I have immersed myself in topics like Neuroscience, Somatics and body-based healing in order to investigate how it relates to, and helps relieve symptoms of, Sensory Processing Disorder, anxiety and depression. I’ve also researched and added dietary supplements to help my family members cope with migraines, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and common illnesses. Over the past two years, I have integrated bodywork such as Reiki and CranioSacral therapy, as well as Somatic-based therapies into my practice, which has allowed me to work on grief, loss and body-based trauma. More recently, I have become an INELDA-trained End of Life Doula and hope to work more with families facing end-of-life. As someone who identifies as genderfluid/nonbinary, I feel that it is important to understand the influences of society and family dynamics on collective healing and personal transformation (these influences include, but are not limited to, capitalism, patriarchy/toxic masculinity, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, historical trauma, racial trauma and gender identity).
