The impact of mental illness extends well beyond the individual living with mental illness. It can have a profound effect on their families, friendships and relationships — especially when people don't have the supports they need to manage their condition.

Today is World Mental Health Day, a day dedicated to mobilizing efforts in support of mental health. Visit our website to learn more about the programs and services we provide to help people manage their mental health and lead stable, fulfilling lives in the community of their choice: bit.ly/4myJ5BO

"One of the things that inspires me most about the work I do is feeling like I can be hands-on in the process of helping and connecting so many different people. I work with two teams that both do incredible work in their own way, and I get to make sure that their clients are receiving adequate, accurate, and appropriate support from their workers. It’s both fulfilling and motivating to be a part of that."

We feel so grateful to get to work with people like Laila, who understand our mission and strive every day to make our clients' lives better.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to meet you! Learn more about our open positions and apply by visiting the link in our comments.

Screen time and digital technology use are ubiquitous and unavoidable parts of our day-to-day routines, but they can also have harmful impacts on our mental health if we don’t balance them with other activities and forms of entertainment.

Over on the Guild blog, we provide tips to help you manage your screen time. You can find the link in our comments!

At Guild, the path to recovery from Substance Use Disorder (SUD) is not linear, and it’s never walked alone. Through trauma-informed care, peer support and a commitment to meeting people where they are, Guild helps individuals navigate the complexities of recovery with dignity, compassion and hope.

“We look at somebody as a whole person,” says Alyssa, one of our Youth ACT Therapists. “Not just someone who experiences a substance use disorder.”

This means addressing physical, mental, emotional, and social wellness — not just symptoms. Read more over on the Guild blog, linked in the comments.

"What inspires me most about working at Guild is knowing that my work in technology directly supports the critical services that our communities depend upon," says Austin Gillmann, one of our technical support specialists. "By providing a seamless and secure technology experience, I ensure that our staff can focus on caring for the people who need it most."

So many of our team members do important work behind the scenes that allow us to focus our attention on our clients — their needs, their recoveries, their journeys. Learn more about joining our staff at guildservices.org/careers. We'd love to meet you!

We recently welcomed three new dedicated individuals to our board of directors! They bring with them a range of experience in corporate leadership, financial services and community care.

Meet Peter Knoll. He is a retired partner from The KNW Group and has nearly 30 years of experience in financial services. He’s a natural problem solver who values Guild's holistic approach to client care, which recognizes that humans are complex and require a team of people to move forward. His desire to serve is inspired by a loved one who could have greatly benefited from Guild's services. He is committed to ensuring the organization is there for as many people as possible.

We’re grateful for Peter's expertise and personal dedication to our work!

Guild’s Story

Guild’s roots go back to the 1970s. In the 70s, Hastings State Hospital closed and The Guild of Catholic Women, a volunteer organization, stepped forward to provide housing for individuals leaving the hospital with no place to go.

In 1990, The Guild of Catholic Women created Guild Incorporated. Guild Incorporated became a separate, not-for-profit organization that continued to provide the services that were originally offered by The Guild of Catholic Women. Guild Incorporated, while working from the history of The Guild of Catholic Women, was no longer affiliated with the volunteer organization that paved the way.

Guild serves Minnesota communities by providing quality, cost-effective services for those living with mental illness or experiencing long-term homelessness. Our services aim to prevent homelessness, unemployment, the use of high-cost emergency room and hospitalization services, and involvement in the criminal justice system. Those outcomes are significant social issues that emerge when individuals with mental illness go without the treatment and services they need to heal and stabilize.

In 2020, Guild Incorporated became just Guild. Guild maintains the organization’s rich history and appreciation for those that came before while looking forward to a future of innovation, expansion, and quality service provision.
